View Full Version : Creating a starfield fly-through?

G'day everyone,

I have a 2D space scene which zooms in and on top I wish to animate stars flying out of the centre and at the camera - like the Windows XP screensaver but faster.

I created starfields in Photoshop and will use Final Cut Pro to animate the 2D images, by zooming-in/scaling, rotating etc. So i'm thinking how I could give a more 3D feel by having some stars shooting out, layed over the 2D images in FCP. Whether I do the zooming stars 2D or 3D i'm not sure, but I have access to Lightwave 8.5 and 3dsmax 6 with beginner knowledge. I also have access to Aftereffects with absolutely no experience at all :).

How would one go about achieving this idea, with my level of knowledge and a short amount of time?

Any help is appreciated, I'm new to animating such as this and so I'm interested in what today's methods would be.

Thanks!
Peter.

Hi,
If using 3dsmax you can use Spray or SuperSpray to emulate
the hyperspace effect.
(Create>Particles>Spray or SuperSpray)
If you chose Spray go to the Modify panel
and you can use these numbers
or experiment with your own:
Viewport/Render count:200
Drop Size:120
Render: Tetrahedron
Timing:Life:100
Emiter size: any number but big
enough to fill your screen

Then create a camera facing directly to the
spray emiter but not too close.
Link the Spray to your camera.
Give a material with bright Self-illumination
to the Spray object.
That's it. Good luck.

Michael
