For those interested, this is 5.2m polys with 160 objects. Yes it's heavy polygons but fR handles it with ease and in the end saves me time NOT doing a bunch of optimization. Also, I can zoom in as far as I'd like as well.
Typically I do use the Cinema Reduce Polygon tool, it works very well but I didn't bother. To be honest I thought the polycount was a lot lower, I forgot to check until now.

Could it be that the phong angle on the crane is a bit high?
It seems that the side of the big bars are a bit bended towards the holes.

I'll have a look. Shouldn't be considering the dense mesh (hardly even need a phong tag ;) )
