it seems and after checking c4d manual there is no way to make loop/circle like cuts into a mesh straight through every place on the mesh. So watching the above image i wanna try to copy the above silo method where the tutor is finally cutting out a circle and a round hole(mouth) is remaining. Now i ask myself what is the fastest method to do this in cinema 4d?

watching the bottom image i tried to clone silos method but as being a c4d newbie i ask myself wether there is maybe a better way and i guess you know it :applause:

The problem is simple, that one is not a loop.

The knife tool in line mode should do the trick. You just have to cut an edge, click on the last point, click on the next point/edge, etc.

There is also an old plugin called Cutter from http://www.vonkoenigsmarck.de/Bannerware/Bannerware.html

Just select the polys you need to cut and select cutter from the plugins menu:thumbsup:

You can do the same thing with our knife tool in path mode, but the Silo example had the edge going through both polys and points, so neither would work in this case.

Which way of cutting is better the red cut (already done) with getting 2 triangles or the blue cut(not done yet) which gives mit 2 quads instead of the triangles?

of course quads should be preferred but still the red cut looks more organic and loop like to me...

I wanna keep a smooth face therefore i ask so fuzzy questions :)

edit: now i have also found a 3rd method i could cut it...

so which is the best ???

i would just go with the knife tool in line mode... it's only gonna take you a few clicks and your done.. the other ways of cutting are gonna give you verts to weld and are not gonna be quite as straight forward.

either use the 1st method you mention, which give you 2 triangles,
or use the following method to get all quads ( this one would be the better one in my opinion).
Don't use the last method you mention, it is too complicated.

yes your method looks best to me too :)

after some line cuts and points moving ended up with that result:

ok an mouth point optimized version :)

Yes, that's definitely the way to go. The other methods shown either create triangles or ngons (more than 4-sided polys) which are best to avoid if possible.

stick to the last methode. For the topology of your mesh it't the way to go. Keep away from anything different than 4 sided polys.

My experience is that these loops work best if you need to switch up the detail level.
If you like to create more detail the other cuts will give you trouble.

stick to the last methode.

you mean my last method where i did the vertical loop cut and the 2 line cuts?... this imagehere:

and what speaks against the method of AdamT ?
