View Full Version : finger skin-deformation solution?
theflatlander 08-16-2006, 05:18 PM Does anyone have a good solution for skinning fingers, how to make them look nice when curling? After Iīve skinned my characters fingers and I curl them, thereīs a space between the skin, which shouldnīt be there if you look at a real finger in motion. I donīt know if itīs because I make my fingers too long(which I doesnīt believe is the problem) or what it is.......or do you have to use some PSD to make it look good?
It would be really intresting to hear how you guys normally solve this!

okay.. if u want to correct such problem...(if not by correcting model..)
i would not advice you to go with PSD.. cause fingers in itself are moving in one axis(for curl)..so you can just create corrective shape.. for it.
it will save you from setting up PSD.. which is basically works with multi axis ...
thx

Iīm sorry but I donīt really understand what you meant now......was that an explanation to solve it or just an advice not to use PSD?

It was advice to solve it using blend shapes rather than PSD. The advantage of PSD of multiple axis deformation isn't applicable here, so it's overkill and (perhaps) harder to set up. It's a Keep It Simple issue, really.

thx spordiac.. this is what i mean...you can simply setup with parallel blendshape.. (corrective shapes)...

Aha I see guys! thanks for being clear about it! But how does corrective blendShapes work, do I just have to make a copy of my arm when itīs in the problem-pose and fix it so it looks good, and then just connect it to the original arm?
Never really tried it before or barely heard of it!
