Hi to you all,

this is actually my first post here even though I have been watching many threads in the past.

I wanted to share my newest animation, - nothing big and made only for testing some things.
It all started out because I wanted to build a space ship at least once in my life (since it's just such a worn subject). I have never done it before in a serious way. It was also to work on my texture skills, getting accustomed to the new UVW unwrap and try out some compositing...
The idea came from a panoramic picture I shot on a vacation in San Diego. The only disadvantage of the footage was that it showed the bay and since it was only a photograph it obviously wasn't moving. So I had to also create some water for the scene. Took me quite a while to figure out how to do it best and it probably was too much work for the amount of motion blur in the final movie but on the other hand it was fun. And - we are here to learn a thing or two, - aren't we?! ;-)
I will also probably come up with a short making-of for the scene which I will put on my homepage too.

But for now enough chit-chat. Any comments or ideas are welcome.

Howdy, Ingo

P.S. I know the design lacks geniusness but that also wasn't my primary motivation for the scene... ;-)

Here's the link to the movie (wmv8 format - 4,1mb):

I also have a still that has been created seperate from the animation, just in case you need to see a preview since the animation is a little larger in size. (I hope attaching a pic is allowed ;-)....)

Looks very nice. My biggest crit is that that ship stays crisp the entire time. i'd imagine that with the distance it travels there would be more blurring and noise at the farthest point from the camera.
(due to the atmosphere)
Very nice piece

hi guys,

thanks for all your comments. I am glad that you like it. I'd love to make more out of the animation but it depends on the material I can get/make...

to taoizm: I actually tried several settings with blurring and atmosphere but it all came down to what I have to show in the animation. There is already quite an amount of blur on the ship itself from motionblur in max and I added some more in post. It can't get too much though still the camera is still somewhat locked on the object. But thatnks for the note ;-)

Now THAT was cool! I loved how you had the craft fly behind alternate buildings. I HOPE to be able to produce something like this someday.

Love the animation. Looks great.

But I'd REALLY like to see the water react to the ship getting so close to it. Perhaps have a couple sprays of water shooting up.
