Hey everyone! Well - this is my current school project for one of my classes - we have to make a Main character, their environment and an optional secondary character (like a sidekick). So far I've gotten the base mesh for my main guy done, and done quick concept sketches for all of them...

Here are the concept sketches:

The main guy is a tough warrior, his castle - i had the idea of something uninviting - with trapped souls carved into the architecture writhing in torment... The side character I wanted to be like a pet to him or maybe a guard dog type thing... I also wanted it to have some sort of parasite on it... so I went with the parasite having trapped hosts still showing though it - kinda like the whole trapped souls thing... for the body I wanted something strong like an OX or something to that effect with the parasite leeched onto the face. I am thinking also that the face inside the mouth might be the actual controlling face...

And here is how far i've gotten in the zbrush detailing... This is my first time doing a full character in Zbrush - so any help would be useful!

I still haven't decided on a color scheme for the main guy - so any ideas - shoot them to me!

I think this guy is going to look pretty sweet based on your progress and the concepts you have posted. Two critiques... first I think that his "chin horn" needs to have some more detail... you can give him alot of character using that, and it will be a major focal point of the character. Second, his upper lip seems to be a little bit too small, or not "fleshy" enough. No idea if you are going to have him say anything, or what you have in store for this guy, but hat could make doing any facial poses difficult.

I am really looking forward to seeing your progress with this character... it looks really good so far :thumbsup:

Thanks man... Yea - the lips are a bit thin - but he's gonna have some narly teeth jutting out - so i modelled the mouth with the space to make room for the teeth...

The chin horn thing - Yea - I am still making some alphas for that to detail it... right now I am testing out color choices for the skin and such... Also - trying to start working on the rest of the body...

So I started working on the MAYA shaders for this guy... here are some samples of what I have so far....
These are just normal mapped - I haven't thrown the displacement map on there yet - still debating on whether if i really need it or not.

I might try something with faking subsurface for the skin shader - but so far it is just a simple blinn...

The maps for the chest armour got screwed up cuz i had to correct some UVs - so I'll be redoing those tomorrow. (That's why they look mis-aligned...)

It seems to be lackign the creases on the side of the face that are in the concept drawings and that takes away from teh overall character. cool concept.

It looks like an start, keep it up and add more detail to the face, the nose and nostril looks weird.

he has his face too cartoonic..


the lips arent defined, the chin horn looks too rectangeled, his eyes are too cute to bring an overall charcteristic of a monster.. if your aiming another shrek then its good.. if you want to make us believe that this guy is dangerous.. then you need more work.. right now, seeing him on a dark alley would make me give him a nickle, not run like hell...
