Hi garyturner!
You're in the right way! Even i don't know the real model, the rear looks like Alfa Brera...
Well, not too much to comment, only one thing: the side window seems to be too large, isn't it? I mean, it should end much before reaching rear window, i suppose...but man, i don't know what car are you talking about, may be it's in this way in reality...

nurbs or poly's?

I am probably going to be assigned a car to model for a class I am taking, and I've just started in maya...any help on how to go about it would be appreciated...ODcaffeine@aol.com

this car is a prototype, no references:cool:

my technik in maya is box modelling with cps tools

alls pieces have the same color are one part.

i start withe a box, cut in 2, delete the half(to be on the grid axe), and apply cps(iteration 0 or1 for work, it 2 for preview ant 3 for render)
nesxt is etrud poly/edges, move vertices & split poly
but bevel in maya is a joke==>the hand is the only way

:surprised

but the difficulty was not in technik but in Ideas..:annoyed: (if picture don't show maybe the cause of my "too secure server" you can go on the wip section of my web page)

Yeah, nice work! Tell us more about the shader, pls! :) It's one of the best for cars I've ever seen around here....

thanks

the shader is a "provisary" shader; it come from alias web ressource on this url: http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Tmpl/Maya/html/index.jhtml?page=/en/Community/Download/shaders/metals/carpaint/carpaint.html#

more to come :)

Thanks for the quick reply =)

I wonder how that shader would translate into a 3ds max material. Hmm..lemme see, if I figure it out, I'll post it here.

try playing with the specularity of the glass so that you get a realistic effect. Also, if you don't have the glass double-sided try it and see what effect you get. (Just make another copy of the glass and put it under it). So far looking awesome!
