RoryWoodford 03-15-2002, 01:31 PM Does anyone have any idea on how to texture the shiney side of a Cd? How can I simulate that lightwave(not the app, the light effect) effect on the cd??? in MAX ofcourse

I know cebas has a special shader for this effect, it's in the pro optic suite plugin. If you're budget doesn't permit buying new plugs you could experiment a bit with a gradient ramp map in the reflection slot, it might turnout nice.

I spent a long time on this a long time ago, and of course i've lost all the info. One thing I do remember though is you need to have the reflection set as an enviroment and not a texture so that it "shimmers" as it moves. If I can dig it up I'll let you know.
I have a good CD texture map I spent a few hours on that I can let everyone have, and you could animate the mapping rotation - but the volumetric caustics or whatever you may have described is not in my toolset yet. :(
