View Full Version : 'the ultimate evil' lyp-sync demo for 10secondclub.com
timeless3d 08-13-2006, 12:01 AM Here is my first stab and some real lip-syncing. I did all of this in blender. I've been working on the character for a while, but only recently grasped rigging and shape keys well enough to be able to do any good lip-syncing.
Let me know what you think!

The movement is still a bit stiff but it's still in an early state so that's okay. I suggest taking some words to exhaggerate so it doesn't look like a slow flow. Oh, and at 4 seconds the character 'hiccups'. I think you put a key too close to another, or the rendering got a slight error there.

Thanks for the excellent crits, Harregarre. I'm gonna take another stab at it.

It's coming along, but I feel those arms are still way to stiff. They're just going from point A to point B. Try and get a little bit of arcing in there and work on the moving holds. Just to give it that little bit more of a flourish.
Also, his body, once he settles into that first pose the body doesn't move for the rest of the animation.
Film yourself, or act it out in front of a mirror of what you're trying to do and you'll see what you need to add.
You've got the basis in there though, just need to liven it up.
Keep it up!

Totally agree with Neil there. Too much straight pose to pose without arcs. If you are working in Maya select something (e.g. the arms) go to: Animation ==> Create motion trail. It will show a line how the limb is moving. Just make sure you get nice arcs.

true dat ^
the lip syncing is good, but the body doesnt seem to move much at all. usually when you throw one arm forward to point or something, the other arm goes back. everything counterbalances.. and you could add anticipation on his arm movements too. looks like a good start though, keep it up!

I'm having fun with post effects and particles, so much that I lost track of what I was trying to do with the animation. I've stripped it out for now, and did a bit more with the body movements. There is some weird twisting at the shoulders, and the left arm might still be a bit stiff, but I hope there is some improvement:

Also, I should mention the contest is over now (monthly), so I am just working on it for myself.
Thanks for all of your invaluable crits.
