So the criteria... the five best submissions will win 28 videos.
Gnomon will pay for shipping as well

HELLO! ya I'm all over this competition! Uhmmm.... the only thing I would say is that my website doesn't reflect the current work I am doing in school right now. What 3d work I have on my site was done prior to school, ( 2 years ago). However I will post some school work for you to look at to ascertain my current skill level. I am currently a full-time student at Applied Multimedia, taking the digital animation course.

hello alex.
you could check out my homepage at www.manuelmacha.de (http://www.manuelmacha.de)
if i`d win some videos, i would donate them to our filmschool`s library, so over 80 students would benefit from them. we already have five or six gnomon dvd`s, but our collection is far from being complete.
they could also deliver good hints for the vfx challenge, in which i participate with a fellow student.
best regards

They don't want to give away the whole set to people like me who are planning on buying the set on DVD.
I'm still having a h3ll of a time with Alex's Organic Modeling 1 DVD that I got myself for x-mas.. I doubt I'll ever get to open the second one.
If you read this Alex when you opened step 3 you said you were at 18, & 15 Isoparms, but when you opened 4 you didn't mention how many isoparms you were at, or how many would be a good idea to stop at.
That might get me through it..
I love those DVD's I picked up 6 for myself at X-Mas They are very good. The new ones from Alias wavefront are mainly lectures with no real content to get up and running with. They stink in comparison. Cheers:thumbsup:

MR. ALEX ALVAREZ !
Does gnomon still have these PAL videos available for purchase?
AlexAlvarez
01-24-2003, 01:56 AM
I think those who need it most will win... I'm very biased towards strong traditional work, and I've seen some cool stuff already.
If it is obvious to me from someone's website that they have a job in the industry and clearly have $, then they probably wont win...
again, I want to help people who need it...
and I'm giving away 5 sets... i.e. 5 winners.
Alex
onlooker: glad you like the dvds... :)

EDIT:
phtographed some of my newer concept immages:

EDIT2:
Well, maybe I should mention my father's homepage, I uploaded some time ago... :)
http://georgheller.bei.t-online.de/galerie.htm
And some works of his pupils ("normal" school, no special art school, German word: "Gymnasium").
http://www.kgw.aa.schule-bw.de/gallery/webgallery.htm
[Be careful, some less good stuff is from other teachers' pupils at the same school :p But most stuff is from my father's pupils.]
By the way, I'm not too sure how to use the genitive in that case.

Also great work on Highend magazine. I originally subrscribed to ic3d. Great info but as a graphic artist the layout was...not my style.
Highend is loaded with great info, even reading articles on subjects I thought I knew alot about, ie. "Lighting and Rendering in Maya", I learned a few new things. I can't put down!!! Keep up the great work! As an infomaniac, I enjoyed your videos, online workshops and magazine work immensely.

congrats whoever wins the way people talk about gnomon vids and the school im sure youll become a excellent artist
wow Alex, that's is a great offer.
I have a small onemanstudio doing 2D character illustration and web-animation and spend a fortune last year on buying Maya and a new Mac to be able to do 3D character stuff because I want to explore that field too. These videos can be a great help to broaden my horizon

My future plans are to make this site a new standard in web design. I will try to make the web experience more cinematic and less dull, to involve the user in a new experience.

Shockwave site, and perhaps showcasing my programming more than 3d work. But looking at some other people's sites, I don't think that'll matter much; there are some very talented members in the preceding posts.
Alex, you've done an awesome job with the videos - our Uni bought a bunch of the DVDs end of last year. I wish I hadn't graduated a few weeks later! At least now I'll be able to get back into 3d again, "Multimedia" wasn't quite what I was expecting. :hmm:

Well, I've spent the last 3 hours going through websites and have so far narrowed the field down to 23 people!
:surprised
So about the deadline... midnight tomorrow.
i.e., I will not include websites posted on February 1st...
And I will try to post the winners at some point on Saturday.
I've already seen a lot of great work and great potential... this will be tough.

Alrighty... just turned midnight. happy february everyone! :wavey:
So that's it, no more submissions.
after another couple hours of browsing, I've narrowed it down to 15.
final list should be up soon. (this weekend)

Ok, here are the winners.
Having to select 5 people out of 100 submissions was impossible! :surprised
So I have selected as follows:
One winner is getting them on DVD... (28 DVDs)
Five winners are getting the whole PAL set... (28 videos)
Five runners-up are getting some PAL tapes... (10 videos)
So here was the tough part... this was not a contest for the best work, but for the best potential for 3D. Also, I mentioned in my guidelines that I would be biased towards strong traditional work. I also used creativity as a heavy factor.
thank you to everyone who participated for your support and enthusiasm.

Congrats to all winers! Iīve looked at some winnersī galeries and I saw some very nice stuff. Manuel Macha for instance and his BokkSakk project :)
Thank you very much Alex! I'm looking forward to checking out my videos (as soon as I get them converted to NTSC).
Am I going to have any problems converting them? I imagine they're copyrighted which means that I'll need permission from Gnomon to make copies on the new format, right? Will you be sending an "OK to transfer" along with the tapes?
