That's some nice stuff. I am doing some architectural modeling myself, so your image makes for good reference. Nice!

That's pretty good, man!
But I wonder what a building like that is used for...

Thanks guys! I have my max class tomorrow and then the weekend, so I hope to finish this sucker up and get you some purty renders.
Crash: The dream ain't dead man. Just renew it every once in a while, get a few people to get a few models done, let it die, do it again and again, and you'll end up with all kinds of stuff :)
Check back in 2 or 3 days!

:bounce: That is really nice. Just a fantastic looking model. God I wish I was still a student with lots of time to work on personal projects!

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I should texture it? What you see there is just something I slapped on, I never really thought about what I want to really do with it. I'm lost :)

Fascinating!!!
Can you tell a little about how you modeled that dome of yours!?!
Theta-Dot
01-30-2003, 11:54 PM
This is done in max 5, btw.
There isn't any bump mapping on the dome, I just divided it up into segments, and as I moved up the dome I tapered the rectangles and ovals more and more, and set them inside. The ridges are extruded from the dome itself, then detached so I could model it more seperately, and apply a different greeble modifier to it (which I still have to tweak for many of the objects... maybe I'll even just switch over to bump mapping). I hope that explains it.
Texturing begins tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it :) I prefer just modeling stuff.

How long does this take to render a single frame?
Theta-Dot
01-31-2003, 01:37 AM
For that image (#3) the render time was about 18 minutes. I had the light tracer set to 1 bounce at 35 rays. But really... if I turned off the greeble and optimized some of those objects it really could be a lot less.

Hmm.... I take it that because I haven't recieved the ton of replies I was expecting.... you all like it! Perhaps I should post this in the CGarchitect.com site?? Is that where it belongs or something? ohwell. I'm gonna texture it as soon as I figure out how.

I agree that it's not getting the credit it deserves. It's very good!

I'm reviving this because... well I'm bored. What do you guys think for texturing? Procedurals???
And doesn't that dirt plugin let me create dirt around where parts meet?
