"Renaissance man" is a term, meaning from the Renassiance era. You know, traditional artwork, not digital.
cafedenoche says it's "A new watercolor with an acid gel wash", btw.
By the way, cafedenoche, very nice work. Very subtle. I always enjoy seeing your work.

That's not what 'renaissance man' means. Here's a quote form Dictionary.com... "A man who has broad intellectual interests and is accomplished in areas of both the arts and the sciences." Just wanted to clear that up.
The paintings are very good. Do you have larger versions of them we can see?

it looks like a photo diped in acid or some kind of junk.
I've seen this done before.
I dunno if it is but...that's what it looks like.

a watercolor not a photo
¿acid gel wash?
well, the technique of the acid gel, is really simple but very laborious:
1.- To apply on the paper a layer of special glue (called in Spanish "cola de buey") to fix the watercolor because the gel is very corrosive
2.- Sketch with charcoal
3.- Use watercolor
4.- Use acrylic to emphasize light points and wait to that it is
dried well
5.- Apply a washing with a mixture (50% water and 50% acid gel). Using a brush and following the outlines of the drawing
6.-Apply varnish mate or glossy according to the wished zones
(Excuses by my poor English)

"Renaissance Man" is actually a term used by the people in the renaissance era. To describe a person who was well versed in many talents such as Art, Poetry, Philosophy, Politics, being a soldier, and the list goes on. When you had many talents such as those you were called a Renaissance Man which was looked upon as an honor. On the other hand dedicating yourself to one talent was considered a waste, a person should try and develop all of their talents to the fullest, or such was the process of thinking...
I should shut up now shouldn’t I? :)

fascinating. is it the acid gel that brings out all those lovely bleeds, or is it in your painting technique?
really funny to see that half the discussion here is on "renaissance man", it had crossed my mind that i was misusing the term. :D

Thank you very much Snowfly (I understand what you mean with man of the Renaissance), the acid gel technique is an aid to obtain this result but before it is necessary to make a good work of drawing.

As a person who did water color before and not good at controlling it. I admire your skill.
I went to your site but can't see a thing, I am able to browse in there but can't click and display any images in the galleries, I know because of the Flash thing but I am on NetScape 7 with plugins but obviously can't view your site.
Anyway good work, like it.
