View Full Version : Animating opacity with gradient

So what I want to do is to be able to animate the opacity of a piece of video using a gradient from another piece of video. I have an object I have created and animated in a 3D program, and want to to animate going from a wireframe version of it to a color version, with the color flowing from the back of the object to the front. The way I have it setup though, I can't do this all in my 3D program, so what I was thinking, was that I could render out a video of the wireframe, another video with the full color rendering, and then a third video with the color of the object animating from black to white with a gradient, with the hope that I could use that "gradient" as an opacity map for the other videos. Is something like this possible using After Effects? I hope I was able to explain my situation clearly; if not, just ask and I'll try to clarify it more. Thanks.

Nvm, I figured out how to do it in Premiere with a multiply key. Thanks anyways.

If it's not too late, you could create a gradient effect on a new layer and use this layer as a luma or inverted luma matte on the topmost of your layers containg the rendering. To animate the wipe simply change the colors or positions of the gradients start and end point.

Thanks, I'll give that a try too!
