Title: Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came.......
Name: Daniel Duke
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Photoshop

Marvel are due to release a graphic novel of Stepen King's Dark Tower in 2007, and I've been a huge fan of the series for many years. This cell is part of an XSI modelling project for my Masters term at the NCCA in Bournmeouth, which is based on how I'd love to see King and Marvel collaborate. Any comments would be welcome.

I got ALL excited when I read the title of the piece, as The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is one of my all-time favorites. It's his masterpiece.

This is highly reminiscent of the Michael Whelan pieces done for the books, but I suppose that paying homage to that is ok, since the Tower isn't exactly the same. I do like the sun right in the middle there a lot.

Thanks Runecaster,

The image your thinking of is one of my favourite illustrations from the series and I guess my work does reflect that heavily. I love Whelan's work, so I hope in some way I do it justice! Incidentally the inspiration for the tower is 'The Shard of Glass' by Renzo Piano planned to be built near Tower Bridge in London.

Thanks again for your comments and I'm really pleased to get a response so soon after posting my first work on the site.

I really like you're portfolio too by the way, espeically the 'Portait of a Boy'.

I don't see anything wrong with letting your inspirations seep into your work - I think most people do it, even if they don't realize it. I certainly don't think it's a copy! :)

Whelan happens to be my most favorite artist of all time, so I'm biased - but anything that pays him a homage in any way is a good thing in my opinion! Thanks for your kind words :)
