Here is a sneek peek at our work on the animated opening for Nickelodeon/Frederator's "Random Cartoons" cartoon show. The logo itself is made up of ping pong balls aranged in a random pattern. The device pictured above is how the ping pong balls get hurled around the room.
You can see a WIP animation of the contraption here:

The contraption was designed by J Chad Erekson
Modeled by Veronica Harper and Mike Kopa
Rigged by Chris Boylan
Animated by Kevin Wisdom
Let us know what you think!

very good in my opinion
it is realy nicely animated i am intrested how the rig was done
can you show us some of the controls and tricks you have done to prepare model to animation?

alot of it was essentially good grouping and naming, placing pivots correctly and a few small tricks using math and then figuring out diameters and angles etc. the hardest thing to rig was the piston that drives the flywheel, i eventually figured it out but the solution wasn't working for the longest time due to the way the constraints were behaving, i finally got it to work though, it basically involves an ik chain, instead of aim constraints and a point constraint to control the up down motion.
the springs are just helix primitives with the construction history on and an attribute driving the height attribute on the node. basically take a stretchy joint chain and then have the scale drive the helix's height attr.

Yeah, I really like the "thinking" the hand as going on as the ball comes down the chute.
Lot's of fun. Good Job!
Just Exelent! Nice idea!
Good continuation!

We've finished the project! I'll be posting the final in the Finished Projects section later today.
That was very cool! I love crazy contraptions. I look forward to seeing the finished one.
