View Full Version : Cartoon Eyes
c4d-jack 08-11-2006, 11:32 AM A friendly pair of Cartoon eyes can now be downloaded from my website.
Some parameters are controlled by User Data. All materials are made of procedural shaders.
Nothing big, the modelling is simple. The lens is convex to get a good specular, and the iris is concave to achieve a kind of pixar-like effect.

Heh, funniest thing is Pixar uses perfect spheres for their eyes. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, do they? Well I guess their iris shader is a bit more complex than mine. Anyway, I didn't get any effect in this quality without deforming the iris. ;-)

Have you tried messing with specular maps? If the eyeballs won't be seen at an extreme angle you can just use a map to simulate the highlights, that way you won't have to waste the geometry on the extra deforms. Just a thought. I took a look at your site, some real nice stuff! Thanks a lot, Jack.

we face two limitation when duplicating pixars eye shader,
1)we can't have multiple bumps on the same spot (like both a positive and a negative) and
2)we can't get two separate speculars for each bump either.
So I use two perfect spheres, 1, just 0.001 mm bigger than the others, which a lens material, that has a positive instead of a negative bump, and a much sharper highlight.

the simplified tutorial for my eyes should be going up on cineveristy soon. SOme extra controls like the seperated highlight that you can place won't be covered.
