Not sure if this was posted here, but its unfortunate....

"24.07.2006

Surpasses 1.0 is no longer available for purchase. I decided to discontinue sales as I do not work as plugin developer anymore and there is no further development planned. Current users can still ask for support if they need help. I got information that Surpasses doesn't work with Lightwave 9.0. I'll look into a patch when I have a chance, I cannot give any date though. Thank You all for interest in Surpasses!"

I never got a chance to try it as there were no mac versions, although one was thought to be planned. .. However, its functionality is needed.

NT, anyway to roll this into a 9.x release of LW? especially the channel editor for multi pass output? thanks...

That's really strange. I use Surpasses with 9 and haven't run into any major problems.

Too bad. It's a really great plug-in.

Maybe that statement was simply premature. I haven't used Surpasses either but understood it played around with item flags (active, hidden etc). In some of the LW9 betas the Item Lock behaviour was changed so you simply couldn't select a locked item nomatter how you tried (give or take a few glitches/bugs). You couldn't even do it via script. If you can't select an item you can't change it's flags either, not even to unlock them! So if the scene had locked items or if Surpasses locked them itself it wouldn't work that great. Thankfully NT reverted back to the old locking behaviour.

Paul,
Really?!? It works for you in 9? You must have installed it right in the FIRST place. I always get errors. But if you get no errors then mayhaps I do have a bad install. Hopeful thinking on my part...

"I do not work as plugin developer anymore ". Hmmmm? I wonder if this applies to all the other plugins for LW.

Shoot. Surpasses was one of my all-time favorite plugins. It was incredibly useful for organizing complex scenes and even simple scenes. It would be great if Newtek could get the code and make it native.

Max 8 offers similar native functionality that is brilliant when combined with Backburner and Render Elements.

Newtek needs to fix the PSD exporter. It is better than it was, but is still poorly implemented compared to the competition.

Newtek please incorporate something similar in Lightwave.
Maya got Render Layers
Max always had Render Post
XSI have thier whole compositing wing to their software

We got ....jipped!

Compositing manager .. please. The Spreadsheet ain't it.

When there is no clients for LW 3rd party plug-ins, I wouldn't be surprised..

As I had noted on the LWForum, I wrote to Pawel Olas about Surpasses, not realizing that he wasn't the author. I have several of Pawel's plugins and was considering Surpasses also. He was kind enough to respond as I have partially quoted below. Please support his plugins, they are excellent, TreeDesigner, Fire, etc.

Surpasses were created by my friend Lukas Pazera and I'm not
responsible for their development. Excellent addition to LW....
(RE: Other plugins) work fine in LW... I'll probably update them for LW9 if
necessary but I'm not planning to add new features.

not good to see good plugin developers jumping ship. it's not all NT's fault, but it's not good news.

Ok, today, I decided to try surpassess out again to see if it was working or not. Folks, could you check your installations as mine is working now. Could you tell me if this is a fluke or has this actually been dealt with to the positve?

Trying not to be too pollyanna about this but it would be stellar.

The Surpasses website is still up, it is the Splinecage forum that is down, unrelated, however the Surpasses site does not have any order info available. Sad to see. I had hoped to buy it after seeing the lack of effort by Newtek to address this and the Character Animation aspect that Lukas other plugin addresses so well. It is a shame that Newtek doesn't make an extra effort to encourage plugin developers with clear documentation on the SDK, changes to the LScript, etc. it only contributes to the depth of the program, especially since Newtek has not been able to direct any of it's recent energy in these directions. I know, NT says, "watch us," but my work needs solutions now and I have needed to make choices accordingly. The disappearance of this developer and others is not encouraging, it should be going the other direction. I appreciate the work of Nitisara and Denis Pontonnier, but I don't want to lose individuals who have already made a contribution that is so appreiciated.
