great color work SF...:xtreme:
how do you figuer out what colors your going to use for highligt and shadows for a background..?
not too sure about the red nose though..I looks like he has a bad cool...:curious:
but only my opinion, it still is a very well done concept.

Wow, you continue to impress me with your style of lineart and your coloring. Keep it up, and I agree with Freddy7133d, the red nose is pretty unsightly unless theres a red light source near his face.

hey, you two again..!
freddy: you mean how i choose? a lot of trial and error unfortunately..it's an "I'll know it when I see it" sorta thing.
Ctrl-U, Hue/Saturation shifts in Photoshop do the job.
Creeps: Yeah, that's me trying to pull off a Jon Foster. Only, he gets away with it, and I don't :D Will tone it down, thanks!
don't you think it looks like they just got laid?
my friend does... :(

Freddy, when you decide what color you want to use for a highlight, the shadows are easy. Because, they will be on the opposite side of the color spectrum as you highlight.
If you need help on the subject, you can pick up a Art book on color, or if you have a color wheel laying around. That is the best tool for choosing colors.

I'm sure you are going to keep working at this right? You have a pretty good composition going and really nice color choices. Keep it up.

updated:
adjusted the color levels and started tightening up the shapes, particularly on the figures. also cleaned up the black areas to make it look less outlined, and gave the dude a much needed face lift.
i'm using two of jon foster's pieces, "Hunter" and "Earthbound", and an article by Jason Manley for reference on color theory.
i'll try to reiterate what i've learned and how it was applied...
as a general rule, you should contrast saturation, temperature, hue, or contrast to create the illusion of space..
in this picture, i used a very muted green tone for the overall atmosphere, but the main figures are washed in orange, and towards the blocky shapes in the background, you can see splashes of red. this creates a sort of hue sandwich of warm-cool-warm. this could've been dark-bright-dark, or whatever.
on the figures, the same rule that mcgrath mentioned applies for highlights and shadow..orange tints for the dark areas, and a bluer shade to create the highlights. the opposite would also work. contrast color temperatures. this gives the figures a rounder appearance than if one temperature were used all throughout.
i will probably subdue the green more next.

update: general cleanup job, finished most of the base colors on Alan's costume (I wonder why I haven't drawn in his boots yet?), raised the saturation/shifted hue in the background to bring out the reds. also nudged the pod up...didn't want their feet to get cropped out by the taskbar, if you know what i mean.

I don't like the way Cassy's turning out. she seemed more weighted in the pencil sketch. and no, i still have no idea what's going on in the pic. :D
okay! gotta go study now. major test on nichomachean ethics & aquinas' natural law tomorrow. blech...

hey this looks good.
I like how you progress thorugh it and making it better everytime.
Love the coloring style, has a nice texture feel to it.
My only complain would be that the girl's arm seems a bit stiff being in that position. :)
