View Full Version : PolyBoost:Border like Tool?

One of the plugin for 3dSMAX is the POLYBOOST toolset.
No biggie there, it mostly copys LW's functionality but they do have one tool
That allows the artist to draw on the surface. In the Gnomon Production Modeling DVD , Ian draws extra bits and pieces on a boot that automatically conforms to the "background" object (frozen in Max).
The emphasis is "while you draw on the surface of the object".


I believe Silo or Wings (topology brush?)came up with a feature like this last year...anything in the world of Lightwave that does this.

yerah, i have that dvd too and the boarder tool and the topology brush are a real workflow enhancement...

topology brush:
silo created the topology brush idea...it's been copied to polyboost and i think that z brush also has something like this coming in version2.5

boardertool:
yeahj, polyboost [plugin for max] boarder tool really make lightwork of things with the boarder tool..it sorta works a bit like extender but also has snapping/mergepoint built into the tool

the idea of modeling ontop of a hi-density model below is very neat...wish there was something like that for lw

i've been waiting for details of max 9 in the hope that polyboost would be incorporated into it or not...now we know it's not i'll be getting polyboost for my max8 and will be going thru that tutorial with all the tools he was using in it as the results look top banana!

maybe we'll get similar tools in lw via a pligin or lscript soon?

or maybe there already here?....anyone???

If anyone else is interested or confused.
If you ever used Maya.

Its like making an object "live" and anything you make snaps to the surface.

Anybody else have any thoughts,links to a japanese site maybe thats done something smilar.

In PolyBoost its actually call Draw on Surface and just about every tool works with this mode. They are all confined to slected surface, which most artist seem to "freeze" in Max.
