"Flight"
by boomerag

These are the rules:

You have NO TIME LIMIT to do your sketch. IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
They can be done on any medium.
If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
You can post an entry at anytime for the topic presented on this thead BEFORE the voting thread for THE WEEK has been posted.
The artist also has to post total length of time it took and program used.
Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
The topics will be picked at random from the list on the TOPICS thread >>LINK<< (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php/?t=145003)
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them).
Good luck

Heh, I actually participated in something similar to the daily sketch, there was a new theme each hour, and one was "wings"...

boomerag is just the nickname of the person that came up with 'flight' as a theme which has nothing to do with boomerangs.

To be honest I didn't intend to sketch this one for this DS topic, just a sketch for fun that I just finished when I saw this topic and I thought it might fit the theme so...
Anyways I think it took me about 45 minutes total.

Hello all.

Haven't done one without time-limit for a while - almost forgot how much time you could end up spending on a sketch :D But I had good fun, there's a couple of things i'd like to have improved more, but the bed is calling now. About 2 hours, started in Painter Essentials, then over to PS.

We apologise to all of our customers for the inconvenience, but due to the terrorist threat, all flights have been cancelled.

http://www.triskell-productions.com/CGtalk/Flight.jpg

Somebody started chatting with me, and I had to do some research at first, so I don't know how long it took me. I assume it didn't take me longer than 30 mins.

I'm flying to England on the 16th and back on the 18th, I'm pretty much directly concerned.
I'll try to post a more decent entry later on, this was just a joke :)

Hi Dekus and welcome to the daily sketch forum. As you say its simply to sketch something over the daily topic given. People's take on the topic often vary hugely and often include a couple of funny angles on a topic, so its not necessarily a strict interpretation that is needed.

The material must be made for the topic, so yeah - no submitting of old material :)

Note that most days will have a time limit on them - in those case you have to post your sketch when you have used the given amount of time on it. You can continue to improve it and add another picture afterwards, but it must be posted after the given time limit.
This stuff, and more is covered in Roberto's instructions in the first post with the topic of the day, but if you have any questions jsut post them and I or some or the other people that hang around here will help you answer them.

Look forward to see some of your sketches

A flight of fancy. 65 min, Painter IX (simple water). This is the first time I've really done something in Painter and I obviously need a bit of help/work... ^^;

Here's my attempt at the flight theme. It's a makeshift boat/balloon contraption that some people built in order to get off of a deserted island. This was done in photoshop in about 60 minutes or so.

Wow, nice sketches, everyone~:D

Mine took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, maybe. Long enough to make my hand very sore.

I would love to see a FRAPS type video tutorial of how you do your pieces, Pipichu. That is if it's not a trade secret :p. Your style is very colorful and alive, and is always consistent.

Keep it up, stay real, and don't do drugs.

I thought roughly the same thing. Very nice balance in your composition, intriguing use of colours Pipichu.

Wow! There's some really nice stuff here. You guys are fast too; unlike me who needs 2 hours to draw a naked stickman.

Here's 3 from me in PS (I really need the practice :).)

Thanks, Downwrdspiral. I'm just getting started and really appreciate the encouragement. BTW, I liked yours too. That little white, winged creature is a trip.

Here's mine. I drew the plane first, but when I realized it started to look like a fish I added the ocean, which turned out a lot better than the plane itself. Still drawing with the mouse at work. I wish I was back at my tablet. I'd be able to draw things that don't look like blobs of modeling clay. The time I spent on this was around an hour, software: Photoshop.

My friend said that my sketch looked like a biological airplane over a mountain range, and I agreed. Forget the ocean, they're mountains! ;)
