Title: Old Villa
Name: Mario Nogueira
Country: Portugal
Software: 3ds max, AutoCAD, Photoshop, VRay
Hello, with this model I try to create an old villa like the old ones existing here in Portugal! I have this 4 images; day time; sunset; night and rain just to give different feelings to the scene!

I particularly like the night scene. Is the grass just textured between the cracks or are those alpha mapped?

I like all four of them so much.. VERY nice. My favorite (if I were forced to choose one) would be the sunset scene. I love the warm light on everything.. it really comes off the textures so nicely. Great job.. awesome scene. :applause:

The grass between the Ground stones its little planes with vray displacement, the vines, near the chimney and in the middle top roof they are splines with vray displacement, all the other plants theu are planes with alpha mas applied

i don`t know why, but i don`t like it. looks flat, not enough variations, lot big areas with nothing interesting, wrong lighting(backgroung not matching) etc.

I respect your comment! You could try at least give some tips to improve the image! Maybe about lightning... We are always learnig with our mistakes!
About the ''looks flat, not enough variations, lot big areas with nothing interesting...'' i try to create a old villa like the old ones here in Portugal (maybe you dont know) but they are almoust like the image, two or tree people in a 100 houses Villa, big spaces, Cold ones, nothing interesting, and they have almoust the same tipe of rock stone and roofs....

For sunset shot try to produce long shadows, that will be casted in the front area.
For cloudy day, don`t use direct light only, because usualy all light is indirect light.(easiest is skydome in Vray)
it is also wort a try to light it with some image based map

This was my first try with diferent exteriors!
in all scenes i have at least 2 lights (one direct light with vray area shadows on, and one vray dome light).....

Very nice! Although the Rain scene's rain isn't quite visible on the first look. Something's lacking...

A wonderful work. It would not know by as to decide, all the scenes
have incredible shades.
Congratulations

I love old building environments like this. Fantastic job.
One critique: The trees in the background really pop because they are so sharp. I think a bit of DOF would really help. Course, then you have to blur the building visible through the archway. But I think this would give more depth to the pic.
Regardless, excellent.
