ok, one other thing, my jpg background images dont match up... how do i scale or move a background image?
You said it yourself, cars aint easy man... As a total noob you should go through the tutorials that comes with max...
Btw background images, easier to setup a plane object and add the jpeg to it. As I said the last time you asked this question... It is still in the tutorial thread "calling all noobs" sticked to the top in this forum.

okay not sure if you knew or not but i did this up quick to setup your concept drawings or references on seperate planes.. as mentioned above.
first click the plane tool and draw it out
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/1.gif
then open up the material editor by pressing M or click this one the main toolbar
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/2.gif
click the box next to the diffuse
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/3.gif
a window will open up.. just make sure All and New are selected then double click on bitmap
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/4.gif
a dialogue box will pop-up . just choose the image you want on the plane
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/5.gif
the image will then be applied - all you have to do is click on the ball and drag it on to your plane
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/6.gif
if you need to align, tile, move the actual image on the plane then adjust these settings
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/7.gif
click the parent button to go back after you're done fixing the position etc..
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/8.gif
and then finally click this if you want the image to be on both sides of the plane
http://www.fragcentral.com/~super/planeTutorial/9.gif
there are other ways of applying the image to the plane as well but i figured that was a decent way to achieve the same effect. hopefully it helped..
as far as a car tutorial... this isn't too indepth but might want to take a look -> http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/car_tutorial/car1.asp
