Title: Love
Name: Marta Dahlig
Country: Poland
Software: Painter, Photoshop

I do have a story behind this painting, but instead of words, I leave you with this picture alone. I wonder what your interpretations would be :)

Original size: 6000x9000px; done from scratch in Photoshop with some aid from Painter. This piece was a challenge, mainly to get the technique and mood work together. It took me a LOT of time, especially to get all those little details right.

Here are some 50% closeups:

Wow. The detail, the feeling, the atmosphere... its all so grate! I just love how moody this pic is. Well done
On a technical side I have strong Linda Bergkvist vibe form this pice - wich is really good thing ;) Only complain would be little off lightning on her face... dont quite matches the rest of the scene

other than that - superb :]

This is so creepy. I can't decide if she's alive or dead. She looks alive, yet the cobwebs... I'm not sure if that's what you were going for, but I love how uncertain it makes me feel.

Your anatomy is really improving, and goodness, that dress! I envy you for being able to create such a lovely pattern. I agree with OmeN2501 about the lighting on her face. The other thing is the wallpaper--the "peeling" part looks unfinished compared to the rest of the piece. Overall another really solid piece from you. :)

Cerebr4l: Thank you :)

Fantom: Thanks honey <3

OmeN2501 & Lauren: Thanks :) The thing with the face.. I know the lighting doesn't exactly match, the face being a bit too light. I was expecting those crits =P But being honest I just couldn't force myself to make it darker, I liked it quite a lot and so eh, I left it conciously this way to make it more visible. ;)

And oh, Lauren, you actually hit the EXACT point of the image. I wanted the viewer to wonder is she alive (and perhaps a bit insane) or already dead? She is, to me, obviously waiting for something that has not yet come and never might, and that is the feeling I tried to depict. A feeling of helplessness and dying hope. And it is for the viewer to decide whether there is still some hope left... or not.
Thanks a lot!

She reminds me of the old woman in Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. If you don't already know this is her story "Miss Havisham, a wealthy, half-mad woman who was jilted on her wedding day many years before".

This girl looks like she is waiting for her wedding day, or waiting for her love? Or perhaps is like Miss Havisham, and has been jilted and refuses to take off her wedding dress.

Anyways, absolutely stunning painting. I love the lighting. Great mixture of texture! Nice work on the cobwebs. Her dress is gorgeous!

For now, I'll try to reply to those as fast as I can, as I am leaving on a two week holiday with a limited access to the web and don't want to be too late withall the replies :)

GUOCHE-1983: Thank you very much :)

Madalaine: Wow, thanks it really means a lot! I LOVE Dickens (currently reading Bleak House :D) but haven't read Great Expectations yet. And heh, story wise, you hit the point too. She is indeed a bride, waiting for her lover to come... Thank you for the kind words, it really means a lot =)

I really like it! All the details... the dress, the brocade, the spiderwebs. You worked on a really big canvas size; I've never been able to work larger than 3000px. My comp can't handle the pressure :D. I see that all your hard work really paid off. It's a beautiful piece :)

Hi Marta!

A beautiful painting. The detail work is amazing  I like the mood of the painting. Although i thing the head is a little bit out of place, i like the work on her face. Also great work in light and colors. I thing she is a prisoner of love and time and because of that she is in a deep feeling of sorrow.

***** from me!

Like everyone else, I'm in awe at the quality of this painting and specially the intricate details.

Only one thing to crit and that is the perspective of the candleholder and scrolls next to her. You got the angle of the birdcage spot on but with the candle and scrolls it looks like we are seeing them from higher up looking down. Hope I made sense there:). It's a very minor fault for such a nice painting it practically goes unnoticed anyway.

5 stars from me.

Well...is she dead or alive? If she is alive she must be very sad for a reason...I don't know the reason but the only think that I know is that your painting rocks! :applause: 5 stars!!!

It's very beautiful... my interpritation of it is that they promised eachother forever before her lover left, and he wrote her for a time before finding someone new. so she waits for him, for that forever, with his last letter clutched in her hand, and she'll never stop waiting for the lover who will never come back.

very sorrowful look to her face, longing, waiting. the cobwebs also seem to add to the sense that she has been waiting for a long time.

i find there is nothing lacking in your pictures, in the quality of the image. you put time and effort into this, and it shows.

very lovely :)

I hope the story behind your work is not a story of your life :)

in my oppinion: I think You should spend more time on face which is very important here -insted of dress which should be second plan - so less detailed. The dress is not waithing for its love is it?

I know that feeling when you are too scary to put some shadow on the beautyfull face - but belive me it is worth to risk ! But in this one is not that bad as you saying - because the mooonlight reflected from dress should light up her face a little, so it is not cutted of from the rest that much.(maybe you could add some light blinks on her neck ,chest too so it would be more clear that is the reflected light on her face. after all the dress is full of diamonds so it reflect light preety good )

what else?... Overal feeling and athmosphere is great!

Hey Marta! Beautiful detailing, concept, angle, ambience, and color choices on this piece. It reminds me of a young Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations"! Fabulous!
