Here is what I come up with. Trying to set the simulation with as less keyframing possible more relying on the simulation dynamics. I think the sim is okay but it needs lot further optimizing and tweaking. The problem is about the render is not coming out so good. So pls Advice on the simulation and the rendering.

File is in ZIP format and here is a sequence of images.

Ohh boy!
This freakes me our when i see fluid simulation :)
I've spent 2 months on fluid altelery gun fire and explosions.
I've done hundreds of simulations and cache head aches.
You can achive good result, the only way you can achive it is by trying every possible parameter.
In your case i would consentrate on enabling texturing, playing with opacity curve in Shading, plus turning on Lightning, try real lights, you need to set up raytrace shadow and render with mentalray.
use high frequency on texture part, try Grid method with low speed.
For good result enable fuel and add some tempreature,
animate emitter Fuel, Tempreature, Density like couple frames,
use high turbulance so on.
The best result i got on texturing is to use Wispy, Space Time,
Perline Noise is ok but not as acurate as Billow.

Setup for this simulation was, some fuel on the ground, and temperature in the middle, then adjusting reaction speed , temperature bouyancy and others I come up with this. Through the end of the combustion smoke seems to fall down too quick so I will fix that, and I beleive i should incrase the contrast between the smoke and the fire. Thanks for your comment XCOMB.

here is another explosion, I thing i pretty get the idea. It really works like fuel is consumed by the heat and hot air rises sort of a thing.

Have a look at this one now and share your comments please
