View Full Version : character: butcher
Risibility 01-23-2003, 06:39 AM This is a guy I'm working on, head is mostly done except for the ears have only been roughly modeled. He is a butcher, so hes gonna get an apron and then im gonna start on a "silly" short animation.
Tell me what you think.

hes supposed to have sharp features but i know what you mean.
the problem is when i apply relax, he loses his wrinkles and his cheeks. I'll work on it though.
update: 2 iterations, and a darker skin tone
next step: bringing out his unclean shave more, fixing ears.
keep the crits comin guys!

I don't think it's already done. I thinkl it's a nice start but still needs some work. I don't like the mouth, their shape is certainly not correct. Try to fix that.
BTW is this a lowpoly char?

thanks r0bal, yes the lips are definitely messed up but they look better when i close em, right now they are spread out so its easier to apply Modifier to em. I'll post some emotion tests in a bit...and ill edit the edge of those lips, as you can see i'm getting some bleed.
Keep in mind hes not supposed to be realistic...heres the ref pics i used, maybe that will help show what i was going for.

update, fixed the lips a little, darkened skin a little more to make him less pale. plz note that alot of the lines you see in the skin are creases and veins (except the one below his eye wrinkle, im workin on that poly)
crits plz.

Not bad so far. I think you should move the ear further forward. His upper lips dont smoothly connct to his face at the corner of the mouth. Its like the lips are actually extruded out from his moustache line.
The nose needs to dip inbetween the eyes where the nose meets his brow.
Finally, give him a BIT of a forehead at least. It will impove the look 10-fold.
I love the design, keep it up!

Ah, thanx rhone!
I really was trying to work on that forehead but I think i forgot about it. Like I said as far as the lips go, they look weird cuz they are spread apart very unnaturally so that its easier to apply a Morpher to them. If you don't know what a Morpher is, i suppose i should have mentioned im using 3dsmax42, its basically just a way of animating the "mesh" of an object. And its really obnoxious work to spread lips apart if you start with them closed. It's easier to add a morpher that animates them closing instead of opening.
As far as the dip in the nose, well, the nose is big to suit the character, but I will definitely try it out. He kinda reminds me of shrek, which isnt necessarily a good thing nor was shrek the inspiration, shrek really bugs me actually. But im going for the "dumb big guy" approach. So small cranium, small ears, and big dopey nose and mouth. I should have made the eyes smaller but I think they are alright how they are, tell me if you think otherwise.
Thanks for the crits, I'll post a "rhonedog update" soon!
