Hey all,

Looking for some quick help, don't have time explore all the possibilities myself i'm afraid. I'm modelling some silk being drapped across the stage. I need to create realistic bends and possibly folds in the silk, like seen here:

(3dsmax using simcloth plugin)
http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/satin/satin.htm

Does lightwave have any neat cloth modelling plugins, recommended tools, any neat tricks or tips? Quickest and easiest being the key here.

So far I've found the magnet tool to work well with creating bends and such except for the fact that you can't rotate the blue selection area, which is a pain.

Just for info, the silk rests on the x/z plane but draping from the y-axis, so i'm creating cloth details for all axis' here. I just need help for the modelling too, not texturing/animation/lighting/rendering :)

Hope you can help, many thanks in advance.

Unless it had a very specific shaping to it, like you were trying to match a photograph, I'd try ClothFX. It is actually pretty easy. I've only had trouble when trying to do very specific stuff - I find it doesn't have quite the accuracy or control.
If it did need to match very closely some reference then I'd model it straight off, no question. Perhaps with ZBrush if you've got it?

Well I have to produce a photorealistic render of silk, but I have no specific reference i'm just to copy. Though maybe I should...

Would you be able to step me through the basics of obtaining clothfx and using it? It doesn't seem to come with lightwave, right?

I know of zBrush, and even if i had it i don't have time to learn a new application :), but good idea for the future, thanks.

Check the manual for ClothFX and/or Soft Body Dynamics. There's some examples for basic collisions with a "cloth" object draping. You'll need to model the cloth (easy:a multi-sectioned square) and then give it some objects to drape over. Run the simulation in Layout, and then "save transformed object" to get the resulting cloth-like shape back into modeler.

Sorry I cant be of more help. Couldn't find a proper tutorial on da interweb. ClothFX is pretty fun to play with though (until it gets angry with you).
