Are there any straight forward animators here? or are you an "infinity" animator? Do you animate every joint on every frame, or animate on twos or threes? Do you only use fk, do you hate the reverse foot? :bounce: Just curious.

I don't have any style. I'm just animating.
Since i often use character studio I don't care about things like reverse foot.
About animating every joint on every frame. Why would any one do it?

If you're working on cgi character for film it helps to keep a consistent look and just looks better. I'm not a fan of the reverse foot, it really only helps if you're doing long walk cycles, there still is some counteranimation you have to deal with. If the animation is "spliney" I like to break it up on every frame even if its the slightest bit.

Well I'm still in my animating intfancy , but I have developed a fairly distinct style in the short time I have been doing this .

I sort of do pop through , plotting out the timing and keyposes , but I do this quite loosely , if ther are certain areas in the animation which require more detial I'll concerntrate on them a little more .

Then I go through and roughly do the secondary animation, then I go through and get rid of the twinning and repetitive actions, then I'll watch over and over , polishing it till I like it , tweaking hand gestures and weight shifts shoulders and hips .

Lastly I do the facial .

Sort of a loosely adhered to pop through .

This is probably a newbie Q, what is reverse foot ?

Ben .

Its a foot setup where the foot can remain planted on the ground while moving the root (so you don't have to counter-animate). It also assists in the ball and ankle rotation when doing walks.

My style depends on the shot.

for realism I go stright ahead, blocking the center of gravity and the feet first. the the body arms and head.

for some of it though, I do key all the controls at once, but I generally stay away from that because of overlapping action problems.
I rarely do cartoon stuff, but I guess if I did it would be heavy on the pose to pose. Overall I don't like to animate that way though.

...about the reverse foot, I hate the traditional one.pivoting at the toe doesnt come in handy often enough to base the rig on it.

Up until now I've mostly animated straight ahead, but for my CGTalk Animation Challenge entry I'm trying to use pop through.

Hehe I use the reverse foot!
