Here is my shape test render of my insect demon.

Done in blender.

Hey does anyone know a good place to host my pictures so i dont have to worry about geocities going down.

I went on and added lots of detail to the head, what you people think?? kinda a water dragon / insectoid look.

Any sugestions?

Hey Darkelfv, looking cool so far - I think yours is the first insect I've seen so far :)
The shaping of it could do with some work - it seems a bit too bulky/blocky instead of organic in parts, but that's pretty easy to fix. I like the legs so far - the joints are cool. I do think that it would look cooler if the wings were perhaps a bit bigger?
And what are you going to do with the face?

I am thinking about taking the wings out of it entirely. heres another shot, hope you like. I going to be mixing exoskeleton with invertabrate. I going to add some spiral horns to the face and add lots of spikes and maybe insect hair. I am not going for the traditional insect, im leaning more toward a dragon lich each time i play with it. Thx for the post i thought i was invisible for a while :) what did you have in mind for the face?

Oops - about the face - I didn't see that picture of it when I looked at your post for some reason... It looks cool so far! And your ideas for it sound very promising :)
DON'T TAKE THE WINGS OUT!!!! I think the wings are an important part of it! They just need a cool design or something.... Please leave it with wings :)

Well hmm Maybe i could just have some bones hanging out where the wings would be like a dragons, that would look cool or i could try to model the pattern of a dragon flys wings , hmm which would be better. I think i have a soultion for the mouth but i been playing with a bunch of differnt stuff, just havent decided which ones i like, maybe i will post the pics of hte differnt mouths tommorow getting sleepy. Your anubis is looking great btw.(leigh)

dark it's good so far but you could use some reference sketches to help you form the body better, i'm not sure if you have cuz its proportions look kinda weird, even for a demon insect !!

Hi, i like this demon design, i´ve always thought insects were not from this planet, maybe this is the answer...

BTW i think the mouths joins with the head in a funny way, but perhaps real demons are like that:scream:

Hey Darklefv,

Looks very good, lots of nice detail. Sometimes, it is difficult to convey your concept without textures. However, I think the reason for using untextured models is to get us to refine and detail to the point where we can convey an idea without textures. If you were to buy a model for use in an animation, you would want it untextured and would judge it strictly on its detailed appearance without color. I have a long way to go before I reach that point, but I am beginning to understand the process. It starts with a good concept (like yours) and then refine, refine, refine.

cool concept. I the insect approach. It is aways fun to see how a model progresses and changes. You've come a long way from the beginning post with lots of details. Keep it up I want to see how it turns out.

keep on at it! You're adding a great deal of really cool detail- I think some time to visit the overall proportions and shapes would also help. Right now he looks a little boxy- which isn't neccessarily wrong, but he could read better with some curviness, and, for instance, if the abdomen part stuck out more, and curved more- right now it looks too flat and boxy, but maybe its because you haven't gotten to it yet. :)

I am still on the neck lol going to do detail after i deicde what to do the fix the head, then im going to do the detail in the torso. thx for the suggestions though, its helps alot. ;)

I havent done much to the head however I have filled out alot of the body and so on, I think im going to do the wings then go and add detail to the over all model, fine tune lots of things, What you guys thinK so FaR!!??!!

I would like to see this one walking :p I like the tail thing and his back spine/bones. Not too sure about the upper arms but like the overall! ;)

Just so you guys know this is the soldiler , I am planing on making a genral and a elite warrior, the arm are for crushing and the smaller hands are going to carry a shield and weapon, I am debating weather to take out the thicker arms all together but if i do i probly replace them with a sort of set of legs with sharp protrusions that will be used to stab there enemy. I been thinking alot about this and I like the idea of taking this into the future a bit and calling it a demon army. giveing them some alien high tech devices and such, I have not been able to update much because i have small contract job that i have to get done by friday or i dont eat. anyways so this weekend will be lots of updates considering i have only spent about 10 to 15 hours total on this guy I should be able to whip out tons of cool things for him very fast!!!

new update, the gun is just a shape holder lots of gadets to come, i really need help to decide should i have guns and gadets or primal stuff like swords and shields. either way i have more to do on the model and more varaitions of the differnt types of rank demon. need to make the other arm and going to continue to add detail to the lower arms waist tail and legs :) what you all think?

oh can we use bump maps????

P.S. Wings too come as well

insects can hold 5 times there own wait man. those tiny legs could hold twice as much as they are now :)

oh and you might think there is only 2 legs from the angle but there are 4 as well there are going to be wings

I have a question, I have read somewhere but still confused. So i could use base colors on my model??? like color the eyes red , just no textures like procedual or texture maps. what about Bump maps, i would love to use bump maps for skin texture and wings im going to be working on. Someone please help me out here , I am asking about final render as well.
color would help define some of the aspects of hte model. like the antenta and second set of arms and knife and sheild and staff thingy. plus bones from skin and the joints between the bones, make it much easy to see!

Ooh how can I have missed this thread before, its realy good work !! I dont know why but the shield is realy cool it fits so well with the rest of the model :)

how do you manage all this detail? what kind of geometry do you use (nurbs, mesh, subsurf?) one object or many?
sorry for the questions- managing complex meshes can be tricky with all the points floating around.
the shield desing is really nice imo. fits the model nicely and looks like it belongs to that creature.
Nice work, model looks like nobody else's.

thx for the post. I was gone for the weekend so I didnt have time to do updates, so far its a bunch of objects when i edit something i move it to another layer, all subsurfaced, I always put my lights on layer one and 2 then objects on the rest of the layers (blender). Realy apreciate all your comments, as far as more to come, I going to add Wings. and maybe more detail on some of the lower parts !!. should have lots of updates this week :) I hope to get my scanner working and i will upload some of my concept art i been doing to get this far, when and if I get my scanner working lol. nothing special just some sribles to get the idea for the shield. I am big on insects, I studied them for a while and did lots of 2d art for it, check out my 2d art site and you will see my influence. anyways thx much and check back soon for more updates !!!

Hey Darkelfv, your creature is just too wicked; it's giving me nightmares (lol). I agree the shield is great, it really is consistent with the creatures appearance.

It amazes me that with every update this creature just gets better and better. I love the detail. This viewpoint shows the detail on the arms - very cool. Keep it up I want to see it finished.

thx guys the only thing i might add is a bit more detail to the legs and wings but not much more, how do i post for final image , what you guys think would be good views? and hehe I might have a surprize I have another idea for a demon, if i can model it fast enough i might have it fight the insect guy, well a pak of them, hehe still sort insectoid but alot of my insperation comes from those creatures but also more human like, a evil Pigimi humanoid clan hehe well even if i dont get it done in time when i finishe it i will put it up on the 3d artwork part of things
