Hello,

This is my first scene!

I would like to get some comment and tips on it! Some questions that i have are:

- How do i get the water on the grond to have softer borders, and how do i create some wet surface nearby the pools of water

- does anyone know good water properties? (i m using Vray and 3dmax) I d like the water to be somewhat more shiny at some places..... perhaps some white reflections in the camera

- does anyone have any tips on getting the scene more realistic? it doesn t look realistic enough to me yet

I hope someone can get me some nice tips!

Ntt, that's looking really great for a first scene.

To make the grass look better you could paint a density map to control the distribution of max "hair" on the ground.

What settings are you using for VRay?

For the water I'm curious what others suggest. I have never tried to do this and I don't have max handy to test anything but here's an idea: make it a reflective surface and then use a falloff map to make it more transparent around the edges. Also remove the bump mapping or whatever that's making it turbulent since this is clearly stagnant water. To break up the outline maybe give the ground a bit of smoke displacement. Just ideas

Not bad for a first scene!

A recommendation:

I'd definately use a displacement map on those bricks. They look rather flat, and Vray's capable of some terrific displacement effects. The scene's coming along nicely, but feels somewhat flat. Giving them a displacement would really add to the 3D feel of the scene, and give better lighting/shadows to add dimension.

Hi hi!

Thank you for your comments! I ve tried to do something with it today....

First of all i tried to make the wall jump out some more with the displacement map, i encountered a problem there though. My bump map isn t really working well with a displacement map. So i just tried a whole other brick pattern which did have a good bump map to it!

But i wasn t that happy with the new bricks:

So i changed that back and tried some more with the old bricks. that didn t really work out well till now.

When i didn t feel like going with the bricks i turned my attention to the water. First of all i tried to give the ground some more depth with a displacement map. Worked great! the pools arent completely smooth anymore. Then i made the shapes of the pools a little bit better and tried playing with the opacity map. the opacity map gave strange results, the water became more greyish and less reflective. I didn t get is nice at the borders though with a fallof map. So i have to try make the opacity map manual later on. Here s the render with the water till now:

Furthermore, here are my settings in Vray!

I hope more tips about the water come in! Thanks again for the comment and any more is welcome!

Ps i haven t tried your method of grass... this is made with advanced painter, just quick for the feel of the image.
