Hi,
If you are using 3DS Max there is a free plugin
to make flaming trail of an object
in this website:
http://www.lastjedioutpost.ru/Plug-ins.htm
The website is in Russian, but it's easy to
use the plugin and the result is nice too.
You can find other good plugins too in
that site.
