View Full Version : (Basic ?) Output questions
I've been using AE (6.5) for sometime now and its time to sort out something very basic that's been bugging me -
Question 1: When I use Make movie (cntrl + M), It makes a new line of settings in the Render Que.
How can I use the same line of settings over and over again instead of making a new one everytime I wanna render the compossition ?
Question 2: I have a 300 frame composittion. I rendered it to a WMV at 30 FPS (meanning its a 10 second animation) as usual and showed the client. The client was happy with it but wanted it to run slower. How can I make it run at 15 FPS WITHOUT changing the compossition itself (with stuff like time strach) ?
Iv'e tried changing the WMV setting itself to 15 FPS but it stil played to 10 seconds and didnt play right. I also tried to change the frame rate in the render settings but it automaticly reduced the frames from 300 to 150 ....
How can I easily conrtol the frame rate output without changing the frames ??

In the render queue select your render job and duplicate it with CRTL+D.
The framerate can be changed in the compostion settings (CRTL+K) but that alone won't make it run slower, it only decreases the framerate. To slow down your composition you will have to stretch it.

What do you have in the actual composition? If you just have text, image files in a simple comp with some key frames, it shouldn't be that hard to just extend your comp (in the comp settings) and then just stretch the key frames out?
If you have actual footage in your comp, that you filmed or something, then it becomes a lot more complicated. You can always time-remap that footage, but then you'll get a subtle, or not-so-subtle stuttering effect on the footage. I'm not sure if there is a good way to tripple the time on footage, and not have it degrade in quality.
You can always take your 300 frame comp, and put that into a new comp thats 900 frames. Then time remap the 300 frame comp? But then again, you'll get a 'stuttering' effect. If you try it (really easy), you'll notice what I'm saying.
So, what do you have in your comp?

You can ctrl-d to duplicate your output settings - but if you are contantly using the same settings over and over you should probably create a template. First create your output settings (make sure that everything is the way that you want them), then in the render que next to your output is a little dropdown arrow, click on that and select "make template". Name the setting at the prompt and then AfterEffects will save that setting so that everytime you need it all you have to do is click on the dropdown arrow and select it. Easy peasy.
As for your time-stretch problem. The only way that I know of that will work without destroying the original comp's timing and rekeying everything; is to create a new comp, drag your finished comp into the new one and apply time-stretch or time remapping.

If frames are stuttering or looking really weird because of the time-stretch, then I would suggest rendering the comp bringing it back into AfterEffects and time-stretch the video with frame-blending on.
