Hey everybody,

I have a problem with Cinema 4d. I think that this problem causes my Solidworks program to crash too.

First of all when I open up Cinema 4d I get an error saying

Error reading resource
file 'C:\Program Files\C4D Studio Bundle v9.012\resource\res\description\tpolygonselection.res'
line 11

and whenever I want to use any of the selection tools I don't get any options that I could change in them and I get the same error problem with a different res ending like pointselection.res.

Next, when I open up solidworks it just crashes right away when I open up a model. I guess it has to do something together in somekind of a system file or something that both of the programs crash.

I never had this problem before just now. So can somebody please help.

Thank you very much.
Peter

Sounds to me like your harddrive is going out. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever that resource files from Cinema should be affecting SolidWorks *at all*. Unless, of course, your hard drive is failing, and then various spots on the drive are bad, and I'd back up *everything* important immediately. Like, yesterday. Like, drop everything, right now, and back it all up. You've either got a virus or your hard drive is dying....

Hi,

I am preety sure that my hard drive is not failing because I tested it, and I also have the latest Norton Antivirus 2006 installed on my computer and tested for viruses but none. I think something got deleted from my computer and that is causing the problem. Like a file from system while deleting other programs that might have been using the same file as cinema 4d. Is there anything else that might be causing the problem?

Thanks for the help.
Peter

You can try to replace the corrupted file with the file from demo version. I had problems wiht .res files when I was using XStacy SE coming with Cinemas installation CDs after updating Cinema to v9.5. Uninstalling XStacy helped.

I get that alot after i run a registry cleaner, like system mechanic.
What I do that fixes it is, run the update again, like c4d 9.102, run the 9.102 update. Works everytime, just like for pc games, when something goes wrong usually running the patch for an update again fixes it without having to uninstall/reinstall.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I think I know what the problem was. As the person before me told me that some programs may do the damage like system mechanic, well I have tha program and that's the one that caused the problem. I reinstalled the whole program and now it works. Now I just have one question. In system mechanic which part did the damage to the program. Is it the registry cleaner? I have system mechanic 6 pro.

Thanks a lot,
Peter

Yea, it's the registry optimizer and the registry defrag. I still run it all the time, because I'm to lazy to go through the registries manually now a days, but I like I said I just run the newest patch for cinema and it works fine.
