Hello there

I am looking for a good creature Book. Something that would use anatomy as the foundation, Maybe something on the lines of The art of star wars.

Can you recommend any?

Thank you in advance

JulianS,

You might check out the Concept Art book that Ballistic released:

d'Artiste: Concept Art (http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/dartiste_concept_art/)

EDIT: I just browsed Google and came across this:

http://www.cgfocus.com/news/story/2449

SYSKIN AND SYFLESH IN MAYA MASTERCLASS
Erick Miller (Sony Imageworks) & Rudy Grossman (Weta Digital) will be presenting a two part "HyperReal Creature Anatomy" MasterClass on Thursday August 3rd. During the second part, "Creature Anatomy: Evolved", Rudy will use SyFlex to demonstrate how to integrate skin and flesh simulation into an animated character.
You might see if you can contact Erick Miller, since you work at the same company. ;) If he gives you the name of a good book, it would be great if you could post it here. :)

Also check here:

Erick Miller wrote a book:

Rigging Characters for Animation in Maya (http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.asp?p=102262&rl=1)

Thanks for the info Rebeccak

Unfortunally i feel kind of weird asking Erick, considering he is a friend of mine, we work on a few projects together and he seats couple offices down from mine :D

Besides his books sucks. Just kidding, he rocks

I am looking for something more on the lines of Animal/Monster
maybe something like this:

or even something like this but with more anatomy

Julian,

I just saw an ad for this book:

Anatomy for Fantasy Artists: An Illustrator's Guide to Creating Action Figures and Fantastical Forms (Paperback), by Glenn Fabry, Ben Cormack (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764129503/102-8098404-9993744?v=glance&n=283155)

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers,

this is a book on the creatures of the star wars universe. and all the art of starwars books have really good creature concept in them as well.

You've helped me in the past. Time to pay back hehehe

Not sure if it has to be a book or not, but these DVD's have some nice ideas along with how they were constructed. I own the Building Creatures with Zbrush and it is quite informative but might not be as extensive on concept as you are looking for.....

As well, this creature set got released yesterday from gnomon....

By the way check out Pierlot's gallery on the right! Freakin insane creatures which are just like the ones in your star wars book.

Couple books I found, all four and half stars and up on reviews:
