View Full Version : maya cut tool?

Fudge08-03-2006, 08:29 PMhello just wondering if maya has a cut tool like max, where you can create a vert and edge in the middle of the face. as farf as i can see with maya you have to click on edges. the way i like to work i draw my topology on with the cut tool and then figure out how it joins up later, anybody know if this is possible in maya? You mean cut faces tool? Or split poly tool without snap to edges ? Or draw on top of an existing mesh ?

I believe he is talking about the split poly tool :

cut tool like max = Split polygon tool in maya.

What I can guess is that you have already used that tool and thinks you can only click on the edges, but if you go in to the options of the tool you can uncheck "snap to edge" (like mech7 said) then it works exactly as the cut tool in max IE you can click in middle of a face and place the vertex with its edge there.

I'm sure that what Fudge is asking is what mech7 and OmegaN suggested which is basicaly similar to drawing over the topology with the split poly tool. Here's an example:
