View Full Version : converting LW to 3DS
loqutos 01-22-2003, 10:31 AM Have any of you had trouble exporting 3DS files from Lightwave 7.5? I am saving out the files in LW5 format....converting everything to polys...also tripling everything. Some of the objects go through fine, others lock up my system....by the way, I have a dual processor system running 1 gig of ram, so I know that can't be the trouble. I have also tried taking a lightwave 5 format object through polytrans...it also locks up Polytrans too.
Any thoughts?

The 3DS exporter has always given me weird results. Go download the filmbox stuff for LW and export it as an FBX file. Then go to max and import it. You'll have to clean up the extra stuff it brought in and fix some of the normals on your model.

Never had a problem here even when the object was near the limit of the .3ds format (65k poly's).... Using LW 5.6 to export and it is being read into MAX 4.2
