View Full Version : dictator david; Princess P.
dobermunk 08-02-2006, 01:35 PM I promised to post a concept - well, here goes. Maybe another later. This one is - err... well - I thought we'd just jump into the deep end, eh? Please don't forward this to my psychologist.
Story in a nutshell:
Princess longs for Prince, Princess finds Prince, Princess and Prince live happily ever after. Err, and have lots of children.
Here's a quick scribble board: LINK (http://www.the-book-of-worms.de/files/scripts/princeWorm.jpg).
(dialog blod, description italic)
Haven't tapped this out yet, but I figure it's about 2 minute's length. 2 main characters, one without arms or legs. 3 secondary characters of the same body proportion and 3 sets. This has to be carried out somewhere between upbeat and psychotic.
I can model, including facial morphs. I imagine something toonish / stylized, but with EDGE.
I'm weak technically, and haven't had the enlightenment of messiah's shading system yet...
Interested?

Nice! :-)
heh i agree with the design orientation!
cartoonish with an edge...but twisted? :-)
(like the Cocacola ad -inside the vending machine- )
u Berlin guys are aware of Pictoplasma probably?
why not this kind of edgy design?
i like the story!
any medical info about that worm that lives as a parasite in a human's stomach?
(it is called "film worm" in greek...no google info ...)
i think that it could have a more nowadays look with
a classic prince/princess narration..
It is a bit cliche but who knows..it could work ...
eg make the princes hip hop fans (hangin' out) and the princess
something appropriate...
(maybe the daughter of a Fast food tycoon) (Burger King? :-)
maybe the worm is eating a dead snail from the french restaurant across the street...
escargo and stuff...
ok just throwing ideas ..please hide the vegetables...
by the way i like the final transition from the flushing---->the castle (the crown) etc...
it is a political statement if you think about it :-)

@Bardakos:
browse through the Loom blog, starting with this article:
http://scienceblogs.com/loom/2006/08/01/a_nation_of_cowards_blame_the.php#more
I'm hooked by this stuff. Wasps that mind-control cockroaches, flies that set up house under your skin, bugs that eat a fish's tongue away and then take its place - as the fish's tongue!
But toxoplasma gondii is tops - making women more understandable and men more edgy. And 66% of Brazil is infected! Over 50% of England.
I like the idea of the princess being a fast food tycoon's brat. We can design our own fast food conglomerate and fill background details with relevant items. And the table full of stuff - burgers, shakes and those susicious apple pie fillets! Ha!
You don't know how tired I get explaining to Europeans that a hamburger is actually a great culinary thing. Or a milk shake.
A bit of background:
a friend was pestering me to write a story for him to make. I wrote this. Tried to keep it short enough to have a chance of completion. I'm doing my current short (Love.Leech.Tomato.) alone mostly because 1) its wierd, 2) I want to make sure this comes through to completion (haven't had the best experiences with collaborations in the past) and 3) I don't have the master plan, and I'm enjoying just meandering along instead of strict "storyboard, animatic, do it" type progression. Basically - getting back to fun.
I have some ad ideas too - one set situations, about 30 - 40 second social spots. Just have to get to preparing and posting them. Also have a 10 minute script that did well at Annecy 2005 but is too long for a freebie production. Basically - I hope to stay in the realms of a realistically achievable collaboration.

A love story involving a princess and a tape worm !?!? Well, that sounds ... ehm ... freaky!
The blog about the toxoplasma is interesting, but I think it's a bit speculative to say that a high prevelance of toxoplasma leads to a high level of neuroticism. May be it's just the other way round: A high level of neuroticism leads to many people eating raw meat which in turn leads to a high prevelance of toxoplasma !? :wise:
A visual style for your movie... well, I could imagine some 2D style for that, maybe something like a hand-drawn childrens book. If that should be done within messiah, special shaders and some composition are needed.
I would like to hear about your other ideas as well !

this toxoplasma is amazing info!
way to go dobermunk...
seems that David Lynch in Eraserhead was not that weird after all ;)
back to the storyline...
if you make an adaptation where the princess is the daughter of Fastfood king ...
i think it is strong :-)
...
heh maybe the worms comes out of the brain of a dead skydiver that died while he couldnt open the parachute :-) (just kidding here)

@suricate: yeah - that toxoplasma report went a step too far into fancy, but it does make for a great sci-fi scenario! As for look, I'd be particularly keen to work with someone who wants to tackle NPR techniques, like Thomas alluded to (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3743358&postcount=11) - sprites as paint strokes, volumetric fibers - along those lines. I'm just too limited. Particles? Hehe.
I'll post other (shorter) ideas once I find time...
@Bardakos: did you wallow back to the Alien-like cockroach wasps? Crazy! Fiction is non-fiction! As for story - I'd communicate the "daughter of fast food chain mogul" into the design (castle, clothing, etc.) and the girl's mannerisms. Are you thinking of more concrete story changes?
