Hi everyone,
I'm a CG student in France, and someone asks me to create some interior CG pictures, for an architect...
I see everywhere some very beautiful pictures of interiors, and don't know how to get a such greate and realist rendering.
So if someone could give me the bases of creating a realistic interior picture... he'll help me great.

Thank's for all :)

Tristan

ps : sorry for my poor english ^_^

Ideally use a gi renderer and only add the lights that appear in the real world - If you are doing an interior during the day time, only use a skylight and a sunlight - Literally use whatever soft sky light your renderer has and one direct light for the sun - A good place to start is to make the sun 2.5 times stronger than the sky so if you have a sky with a light multiplier of 2, make your sun multiplier 2 x 2.5 = 5. Let the GI do its job and you should get good results.

Also if you are rendering interiors, you may need to use really bright lights outside to get something that looks correct - you'll also need to have a lot of GI bounces to fill out the space properly.

Thanks for this really helpful and fast reply :)
If someone else have some tips/tricks/ideas, you're welcome.

I also have heard about some render engines like brazil or maxwell, but somes told me that they don't work like Mental Ray (I use Maya), or VRay... are they better or not ?
If you got an answer... ^_^

All of them have good and bad points. Personally I'm using vray and it's fantastic for interiors speed and quality wise but the same can be achieved with any renderer. Take a look at this thread where people are discussing how to get vray type renders using mental ray - http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=190232&highlight=vray+interior+mental

MR have image base lighting function, u can use an env file or HDR file to light your scene. And turn on Final Gather & GI with some adjustment.
