View Full Version : Character: Robot co-pilot
squidinc 01-22-2003, 01:20 AM Robot made for a larger project that I'm working on, kind of a misfit crew of space idiots, this is the second crewmember :D
I'm gonna try and get some animation involved in this project somewhere along the line, rather than just a load of stills :hmm:

I like these characters. Very goofy yet believable for the alian thingy, very realistic yet very fantasy for the robot. The textures are very good. I also like the large limbs and head. Am interested in seeing these animated. Do you have the craft they pilot? if not, do you plan on building it?

Excellent work
I really love the robot, and stylistically the characters are nice 'n unique. I'm also curious to see an animation, but what I'm really keen to see is the ship, or environment for these two....are you going to build/post one?
Cheers

Great job on both Chars!
One question: I don't know what the robot needs to do, but the fingers look like there are some pretty tight tolerances at the knuckles (unless the whole finger deforms)...
I LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE the second guy. Great nails modeled right in to the hand, and I like the overall shape of the hands and fingers (kind of reminds me of kimpossible or similar styled hands...) Great work! Keep it going!!!

this is one of those long drawn out projects so I'll be adding bits and pieces over a few months, my original idea was to have a scene in something like an intergalactic airport but with these characters and a couple of others as the main focus of the image, I might also do some animating if I can figure out how to use cinema 4d's animation tools effectively.
and front page promotion!!, that rocks, who do I have to thank for that??

v v nice modeling n texturing you got going on  I remember seein these a while ago... and they've only just resurfaced !:surprised
just wondering.. about the dents n chips on the robot... were they bump maps? or did you painstakingly incorporate them into the mesh?
either way they work really well, and i can completely picture the space port now, [i'm imagining a cross between the main entrance in monsters inc.. and an airport] plenty of indiscreet 'monsters/aliens' wandering around.. with suitcases :buttrock:
keep the updates a coming

hey squidinc, spicy characters - the robot with this big unhandy hands, the alien with this slightly stupid and jocosely look.
Could become a good crew.
p.S. Do you remember the game Z with its odd "space marshalls ... :)

good work. At first I was wondering why the robot had such huge hands and feet, and after seeing the alien that he is helping out I see why. They match well.

Squid,
Great style.
Textures are very good for the metallic parts but the alien's skin seems to have been given less attention. Perhaps more blemishes and surface texture would add to it?
Also, the alien's fingernails should perhaps have a different texture, to make them look more shiny and hard. Right now they blend into the skin of the hand.
Is this a personal project? Do you plan to make it as a short or something longer?
Very cool. I look forward to seeing more! :wavey:

im totally diggin' it.... I like the mesh, it's very well crafted and the colors and over style are great too....
only thing i noticed right off the bat is that the metal is looking a bit like plastic... I think some additional specular level maps would help break up the mostly even highlights and shading.
top quality work:thumbsup:

 cheers,
Simple, sweet, and nice metal textures.
Often simplicity is harder then complexity as there's nothing to distract the eye from the shape, and less curves mean each one becomes more important and relevent.
The skin on the green guy doesn't live up to the texture of his armour, mostly due to the lack of variation of colour. But I have to say I like the concept of having detailed parts backed up by simplicity on other levels.
Great Job!

02-21-2003, 06:32 PM
wow, really great, I specially like the textures.
my only crit here is for he second pic... the pose doesn't look natural, and there's a big contrast between the detail of the skin textures, and the textures on his armor or whatever it is.

I really like the way that the textures look worn, like they've been in the field or something. Can we see the texture maps? I'd really like to know what you did to make the dirt look like that. Very good!!!

yup, all procedurals :)
I own the bodypaint module for C4D so I really should paint my own or at least add scratches and dust etc.., just haven't had the time to sit and read through the manual
