View Full Version : Looking for a Character Modeler Maya or Max
Jason-Kane 01-21-2003, 11:40 PM Looking for a Character Modeler - Maya or Studio Max
Work with a very talented team of artists to create and modify a cast of characters to inhabit an amazingly detailed game world.
This is a paid position with a competitive salary and good medical and dental benefits.
We are looking for individuals with a strong background in anatomical drawing, sculpting, and modeling. You must also understand how to create models that have proper flow lines and that are easily rigged for animation. A concept of the muscles in the face and the kinematics of the muscles during speech is a huge plus.
We are located in a very beautiful area east of Los Angeles. The weather is warm and sunny all year long.
If you are interested in the position you will be asked to model a test for evaluation purposes only. The test will take about 3-4 days to complete.
If you are interested email kane@kaneCG.com immediately for consideration.

Thanks!

Great model Nate. I think the head came out a little small in proportion to the body though, and he kinda took on an "Undertaker" feel. I do like your hair.
Here is mine:
http://www.geocities.com/xstin2000/crow2.htm
He had a "Tarzan Factor" for a long time, and there still is something off about him. My self crit is I needed to spend more time modeling his legs and his biceps aren't quite connecting to his arm right. I should have modeled him in his ripped up black shirt. Also, his chin has divits that need to be smoothed out, and there is a seam problem in his lower neck. My characters eyes; I forgot to run clean up on, and thus my model came out over budget, at 5928 tiangles.
I am most interested in seeing how people handled the big problem of the hair, as well as how much detail they put in each place and where.

Hey Dustin! Wassup. You still in San Fran? Thanks for the crit, you're totally right, I always make the head too small. :annoyed:
I took a look at your model. 2 good things off the bat is the traps and the nose look great. You were right on the legs being off, they seem overly thin and the feet too small. Keep in mind also that the butt crease would curve down toward his thighs in pants. For his bicepts, I found running a flow line from his chest up and around his deltoid is pretty solid. Then grow the bicept from where the ribs and deltoid meet. His chin didn't bother me at all but keep in mind that the lips curve back. Yours seem a little flat. I think the eye lids need a few more flow lines. Also the top of your eyelids push way too far into the head. Feel your own eyelids, the curve is fairly subtle on most people.
That hair was a bitch! I modeled it 3 different ways before I settled on what I ended with.
Hey Tracey! Sorry I spelled your name wrong the first time. :hmm: I heard your model was really tight, anyway I could get a peek at it? :)
if anyone wants to check out mine it's on my website:

Later everyone!

Hey Nate thanks for the crit, every point was dead on, I shall revisit my model. I moved south in August, to Orange County. It is very gorgeous here and less hectic! Tracy, your model on the Hawkprey thread rocked, I'm sure the Crow one does too. I don't think we ever met, but I am sure we will cross paths sometime. Dmarcus, chat it up man.

Um sooo I'm confused. Was this position ever filled?
One post says it was...the other contradicts it.
Just curious...I'd like to see the "winning" model:)

The owners of the game studio have ruled out most of the tests and have selected two that are still pending for a final desicion. I have attempted to inform people if their tests were not selected for final consideration.
I would like to thank everyone who took the test. We were impressed with the work put into each test. They were all impressive. I would recommend that each applicant place the test into their video game modeling portfollios for future job prospects.
In case I have not specifically contacted you I assure everyone that each test was very carefully considered and reviewed. Every test recieved equal attention for review and was fairly considered.
Thank You,
Jason Kane

Hello, can I ask what the test was? It would be useful for people to know what might be expected from them in their future job-hunting.
Thanks,

I didnt take the test cause I thought it was too late, but i have a friend who did, you were supposed to model past actor brandon lee as realistic as possible with 5,900 triangles. 3 thousand triangles for the face and the rest for the body. Some people posted their models.
The weird thing is that on jan 31st this job was posted on another website (vfxpro.com) and on feb 1st, the guy posted a thread here saying the owners had already chosen the right candidate. (?)

I have no idea who copied the message to vfxpro. I imagine that either someone copied the text of the message into the VFXpro message board or the administrators of VFXpro themselves copied the messge onto their boards.
In other words I did not post that and have no idea who did, but it was a waste of everyones time because the position is not available.

I am in the process of contacting VFX pro to have that false post removed.
