aarrgghh

after almost 2 straight months of work (that seemed to never want to end), i've finally finished my lastest creation -- lucifer the bat. he was modelled in lightwave 7.5.
for years i'd kept my eye out for a decent bat, maybe from daz3d or a similar company, but none apparently were forthcoming. this might be due to the difficulty of dealing with characters with webbed digits and/or limbs, a subject on which several terabytes must already have been exhausted in these circles. whatever the reason, i guess if you want something done ...
as you can see luke is no ordinary bat. i could have made an ordinary bat, but i thought it might be more interesting to create a character. to this end i decided to create a faithful travelling companion to my lilith figure, which i had created just over a year ago.
i thought i knew a thing about making poser characters before i started him, but working on this guy showed me things i could only have discovered thru sheer desperation, especially in the areas of uv-mapping & texturing. necessity truly is the mother of invention.
luke & his accessories were mapped using both lightwave & uvmapper. neither program's feature set was complete enough to solve all of luke's quandaries on its own, and mapping him was essentially an iterative process of exporting the meshes back & forth between programs.
luke thus far has 4 different sets of skins, an easypose tail, and a conforming saddle & bridle with easypose reins.
