Heya guys,

I've been working on a head since yesterday evening. I'm quite new to making characters still; this is about my fourth serious attempt at a head I guess. Anyway, I've been using a Night Elves models from WoW as reference (I play dwarf myself though, as dwarves are made of win and awesome) and thought I'd post some WIPs :)

Like I said I started on this yesterday evening, and finished around the neck at about 2 at night. It's rather screwed up, but for some reason it appeared quite natural in my half-asleep state when I was making it. I'm gonna re-do it, but I'm not quite sure how yet, as most topology pictures I have, don't really quite show the edge flow for the neck/bottom of the jaw. Maybe I'll just try something myself; hopefully I have some feedback here by then :)

Also, my last few tries on heads resulted in deformed noses. This is what I have so far, but I'm not sure how to detail it. I know there's supposed to be a loop running alongside the nostril, but I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to go and where it's supposed to come from. So any feedback on that would be greatly appreciated, too :)

Anyhoo, I'm not really planning on animating it or anything (maybe I'd give it a go though). My main concern is to get a good looking head with a, hopefully, half-decent topology. So I'd really loooooove suggestions/tips/critique/comments; anything! Because, y'know, if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right... to the best of one's abilities. I guess I'll have a go at making the ear for now :)

Cheers.

Gonna do the eyes now. Hopefully there'll be some response by then :D

Heya,

I did a little more work, just reorganised the neck and put in some eyes (though I'm not sure if they're right, still). Guess I'm just gonna mess around a bit with the nose, see what I can come up with :)

Looking good, those ears worked out well. I think the nose needs to be a bit less pointy maybe. And perhaps her eyes a bit bigger. Keep it up. What class is she gonna be?

Looking good so far. Hope to see more soon.

Heya,

thanks for the replies :) The eyes were too narrow indeed, I widened them up a bit according to my sucky reference. I also finished the nose (I think!). It looks okay, but I'm not too sure about the poly set up.

Also, it's gonna be a priest with full transcendence :) That is; if I can complete the body and succeed in making the clothing :D

Anyhoo, two pics of the nose :)

Not sure what to do now. I guess I wanna try out the Mental Ray SSS thingy, even though I've never worked with that before. Or maybe try out some stuff for the hair... Or I might just continue on the body, who knows?

Anyway, updates will be posted :)

Cheers.

Hey guys,

so, I've been messing about with SSS in Mental Ray (had never worked with either before!) and my oh my, I'm very impressed :D Sad to say, I did more fooling around than doing anything productive. But in the end, I do feel I learned quite a bit about the SSS technique and mental ray, and most importantly; it was alot of fun.

This is what I have now:

Critique/suggestions/comments/tips/jokes/whatever; VERY much appreciated! I'm very eager to learn :)

Cheers!

Blargh,

well, I had a go at the body (had never modelled a humanoid one to that extent) and well, it didn't work out too well :(

She looks sort of deformed, and the mesh is really messy.
I figured it'd be okay though, as I wanted to get some clothes on her, and you wouldn't be able to see her horrible naked body. I just had my first attempt at making a nice robe, but it turned out horribly and she looked even worse :( So I guess I'm gonna have another go at it, or try some different clothing, or whatever!

Anyway, I'd really love some tips/comments/whatever :)

Cheers.

Heya guys,

well, I just read the Blizzard contest page thingy, and it turns out that I can't enter it as I'm 1. residing in the Netherlands, and 2. underage. So I guess I can take my time with this thing as it's just for fun. I think I'll re-do the body somewhere in the next days, see what I can get. Then hopefully I can get some clothes working.

Cheers :)
