Hey fellow cgtalkers...lets talk...about cg.

I'm currently animating a character that has to drink from a bottle in his scene. I have a rig setup where I can switch back and forth between FK and IK arms. Here's the problem:

Its nearly impossible to co-ordinate the hand, bottle and mouth drinking in unison without some form of skating/floating when the bottle hits the mouth.

FK arms mean I have to key 3 seperate controllers (shoulder, elbow and wrist). Making it hard to keep the bottle wrapped around the lips while the character is holding it.

IK arms make it a little bit easier cause I just have to key the wrist controller, but still...the bottle is floating around the lips area.

Currently, my bottle is parented to my wrist joint. I think it would be easier to have that wrist joint's pivot be located around the lips of my character. but it's impossible to change a bones pivot point (at least to my knowledge).

Has anyone had to animate something like this? Let me know. I can also provide more detail and info upon request.

your help is appreciated as always guys, take care.

You could look at using some parent constraints with both the IK for the arm and the transform for the bottle (located at its opening) being constrained to a locator that is positioned at the lips. When you rotate and translate the locator everyting will follow that point.
