Once upon a time there was a little girl named RebeccaK and she had a dream. She wanted everyone to have their own Anatomy Thread. Sometimes she asked nicely, sometimes she cajoled and sometimes she brought out the sharp implements...but she always got her way.

Thus I am here (they say I won't have any scars). ;)

I took Beck's workshop, Figuratively Speaking. Loved it. Recommend it.

I am going to share some of what I accomplished in the class as well as add new things I am planning on working on.

To start, this was one of my pieces from class. Done in Painter, using chalks on a toned paper, a ribbed charcoal paper surface employed. (larger version can be seen in gallery)

Am busily working on several pieces for demos in my workshop...the cool thing is it's really making me produce. :) This is a WIP, in it's final stages, using Painter's Chalks.

Your NeckStudy_600.jpg and 15 min sketchaton pictures are just fantastic. The character in that dancer is amazing and the quality of the painting in the neck study is great. Really natural looking media too, this thread could wind up quite an advert for painter :).

I look forward to following it.

Kary, thank you for such nice words.

Right now I am mostly trying to show what Painter can do. In my work, I most often work back and forth between Photoshop and Painter. It has, however, been kinda nice to stay in just Painter. I tend to do more precision paths in Photoshop and much more freeform painting when only in Painter.

I was just playing tonight...nowhere near finished, this is a character WIP.

its a very beautiful picture. but i noticed somethings that were off..that might skew the look of the image. the creasing under her nose/above her lip. I forgot the name of it but the right one is skewed off. which makes it looks like its off the axis. when all the features are right on target. unless your trying to make it look like she pursing her lips off the side.

her neck area... doesnt really look like she has a neck, maybe u can use shadows and highlights to show where her neck is.
but i know its a working in progress. so u probably added more detail and fixed it up.
anywho. This peice is looking lovely

good luck to u

Thanks, Becks! You drive a HARD bargain and close a MEAN deal. ;)

Lute, yep, you caught several things that need to be worked out. Philtrum, neck...sometimes I find working this was is like working in clay where your adding, taking away, finding the form. I like to work a number of ways...they're all fun. Thanks for the crits...always great to have other eyes on your work...it really helps.

Sometimes, using the smooshy tools can smoosh the heck out of everything. I never really worry (especially when it's just for the fun of trying something for myself) because I know what I do is go back in and put a "virtual" tissue over my work and correct myself. We used to do this at Disney all the time...do an image, overlay, correct it, do it again, overlay...as many times as it took to work it out. It's a lot easier to do it digitally...I can just do a new layer and paint my correction. Sometimes, we would also take our analog drawings and scan them and correct them.

I would sometimes clone the paper and mimic the pencil from the original sketch and it was hard to know if they were looking at a color xerox made from an original paper sketch or a digital correction I had made. ;)

The Winnie bits are almost aggressively cute, if thats possible ;). I like the action Winnie is in, very rollie pollie, and the walk you'd expect out of him. The jar that piglet is in looks a little odd to me, it seems like a 'looking down' perspective on the jar, and then it's a straight profile on piglet.

I really appreciate seeing the rough work / self corrected pieces. I've not developed the type of eye you've displayed in the self corrections, but it's encouraging to see it in action. The sketch of the warrior with the lantern is great. That is the type of sketch is what I'd love to be able to do myself. It very much communicates the idea, and seems to be doing it with fairly minimal time involved (other then the thousands of hours of practice to be able to do it out of course). Oddly the first day that I saw it I had strained the arch in my left foot, and her pose seemed a bit unnatural. A few weeks later, with an uncomplaining foot, it seems natural.

Cris-Palomino
08-21-2006, 11:48 AM
Thanks, Kary. Yeah, the Pooh stuff was for funky little icons and when we do that type of work, we sometimes do weird perspectives...take liberties with things...these weren't pushed very far, but they liked the style.

As far as self-correction...that is something that is constantly done at Disney...whether we do it on our own work to perfect it...or on other's work to help get a point across on composition or anatomy or whatever. No one was sacred, so you got used to it and, if you remained open, could learn a lot.

These are sketches as they're being created for the demos and tutorials for my Painter Class...the first on making papers within Painter; the second is their class assignment and my demo of what they will be doing.

you have some lovely work here :) good to see, and like Mark says... a few scars just add character :) It would be interesting to hear a bit more about the work you do (did?) at Disney... and my apologies if you've already talked about that elsewhere. I'm always curious and fascinated by artists' backgrounds and working environments - the variety and versatility of professions that takes us in so many directions :)

I really like your quick studies and the head and eye study

Cris-Palomino

Thank you, Annette and Nathan.

Annette, I am now a freelancer, though I still count Disney among my clients. I worked there for 13 years as a character artist for the better part.

I started working with a small group who started republishing long-standing Disney comics titles, such as their longest published title, Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. We also premiered new titles. We often wore many hats, but I was in charge of Production on the books, though I began to hand color and code the comics for publication. We worked very closely with a company in Copenhagan called GPS, Topolino Magazine in Italy and Gladstone in the US.

I moved into the Licensing Division and was on the original team that developed the new global release of Winnie the Pooh in the early 90s. My specialty was Pooh and all the Milne characters in both the Disney Featurette and the illustrative style of E. B. Shepard from the Milne books. I also drew many of the Classic characters plus the Princesses and some of the newer characters. My work, along with the other artists in our division, was put into portfolios that went to our licensees to develop product lines.

I worked very closely with licensees, often developing drawings in 3-dimensional views of many, many products that were then manufactured in a variety of materials. There were also a number of textiles, toys, apparel....too many to number. It was a great training ground...I worked with so many incredible artists.

It's also very fun to walk into stores across the country, from department to grocery to pharmacy chains and much more and be able to see things I had a hand in....it's truly a kick. I often have friends and acquaintances who show me pictures of their children with some item bearing a drawing which became a design that became a product the child was wearing or using. Very fun.

Thanks for your interest.

Cris - I think that would make a great painting :)! One suggestion (not really a crit) is that maybe the fae's wings could be open a little more, which could let you show off some really cool design. Although that might distract a little from the relationship between her and the bird? Hmm. Hope you go for it anyway, look forward to seeing it ^___^

Just stopping by to say...Hi......and that I enjoyed reading about your Disney adventure...:)
REALLY like that drawing you just posted...nicely composed...very pleasant to look at..
Was wondering if that is going to be a KING FISHER next to her....BEAUTIFUL bird... I have a nesting pair in the marsh behind my house...always see them sitting on a branch overhanging the water,...then they fly up, flap their wings in a hover motion,...then dive like a bullet into the water, and usually emerge with a fish...a great little action and drama to watch..:)
Hope you find time to paint that drawing you just posted....would make a beautiful painting...
Hope your painting class is going great so far...:)

Glenn. That is indeed a Kingfisher. They really are wonderful birds. I have not, regretably, seen any in person. How jealous I am that you have such a wonderful site near you. You should try to photograph or video them.

Hi...Cris ....:)

GREAT job on that King Fisher and Fairy so far...
I found a great way to do feary wings awhile back, using painters...liquid lens and metal...might come in handy to you, if not now...maybe down the road...I make the viens and line of wings using the liquid metal, with tranparency slider all the way to the left...easier to contol the line.
Then I ajust it to tranparent, using the sliders, so it looks like glass...press OK ,...then go to lighting effects in the surface control menu...in the effects section...those colored spotlights used to put whatever color I want for the wings...they will only put color on the parts that you have done with the metal and lens brush...You end up with that magical tranparent luminious..dragonfly wing look.
You can also ajust the contrast ect. while you are there...will only affect the wings.
There is an example of this technique, on the fairy portrait on my portfollio page...one of those little paintings about half way down, green colors, and in the middle,.. I think,... in case you might be interested....A little technique, that might be a nice addition to the tools in your arsenal ... :)
GREAT to hear that you are enjoying teaching your painting class...your students are too i'm sure..:)
I just got that...Z BRUSH DVD in the mail....will have to wait tell Jessica gets back from visiting her sister tommarrow, so she can show me how to play it...LOL..NEW MACHINES ANYWAY...make me feel like a CAVEMAN sometimes...:scream:

Totally agree. Great expression on the fairy. In fact, not just the expression, but the face itself- it's real, not an idealized and generic version of beauty, but a natural face with familiar human warmth and character.

Thank you, Mychael! I am enjoying participating in the sketchathons...the 25 minutes is a killer...you don't know how fast it can go by till you have to stop at 25. Heh!

And there are some very good, fast artists.

Here's an update on the fae.

Thank you, Julian and Anette.

I just completed the majority of my training videos for this week's Painter class. This week we're exploring making papers and using the textures to create a piece. This was my example piece in my video.

I made textures from two different barks and one from a field of stones one of my students took while on vacation in Croatia. The rocks were used primarily for the foliage, some of the tree and a bit of the grass. The tree barks on the tree and a rough felt for the grass. The square chalk was used for all at lowered opacity.

The rock texture.

You're doing what I'd love to do, illustration! It was great to read about your background. I love how beautifully you draw, especially the portraits. Your latest piece is turning out great (the latest sketch of the woman holding a bird).. it does remind me of cinderella too, I loved that movie when I was a kid and still love it! I can't wait to see the finished fae and kingfisher, it's a gorgeous idea and so far it's coming along really well. I love the wings especially, they're subtle and beautiful, and don't distract from the silent dialogue going on between the fae and the bird.

I can't really offer critiques, your work is really exceptional and far past anything I can do- I still need references most of the time when I draw, it's difficult for me to do people without looking at a photograph.

I'll be keeping an eye out for your thread, it's really a pleasure to look at your work.

Cheers,

Hi, Mark.

I must, unfortunately, depend on photos of flowers as I seem to have missed the "plant nurturing gene". I have killed cactus (poor cactus). Anything growing at my home, grows despite me. ;)

Using guides can be as simple as holding a pencil against what you see to check angles, distances. They're merely guides to help you see with something to guide your accuracy. I have a tendency to slant things when I draw; I try to hold them up to a mirror or reverse the image on the computer.

Glad you liked the article. Thanks for coming in to see my work and leaving such nice words.

I love the work of Winsor McKay and I also have a book of all the Little Nemo in Slumberland stories. Very charming. If you would like to put some scans in my Golden Age thread...I would be very pleased to see them.

Thank you for you sentiments on my work. I am presently trying to put together some examples to send to children's books publishers.

Hi, Sabrina...thanks for your words on my work...I'm having fun creating these and will be putting some more examples soon.

Maravilloso!

Thank you for your visit...I haven't finished the drawing...it will have color and texture when I'm done. Many thanks for the video on Milo...he draws like two of my friends. One is Sergio Aragones who draws cartoons very quickly and are very funny. The other goes by the name of Moebius. His name is Jean Giraud. A very refined artist. In the same manner as Manara, Jean would take a pen to a white piece of paper...start in the middle and draw was if everything was already on the paper. Marvelous!

Johan, your words really touch me. I am very grateful if any of my humble work (among the immensity of great artists on this forum) is looked upon as helpful or entertaining. Thank you. I also know we are all here (for the better part ;)) to learn and grow. Any of us can get blinders on when working on a piece. It's always good to have other eyes to look from a different perspective.

This is a quick study from one of Hong Ly's beautiful photos. I hope to get a chance to flesh (no pun) this out more.

Been meaning to ask you, BTW. Your signature looks very similar to the chinese character "nu" (female/woman)- it's slightly different, though. I lived in China for a number of years, and often use chinese characters when I sign my works. Heh...what's that they say? You always hate what don't understand. Or was that fear? ;)

Really, though, there is no program, that I know of, that gives you some of the things you can do with this program in the way of creating work that looks like it used real world media. BTW, which was the last version you tried out? Often, people who tell me that hadn't used Painter in a few versions. Also, what is it that you didn't like?

Thanks for stopping by.

Mychael, meant to respond. I know the kanji as nonna. My very good friend and artist, Sadao Miyamoto, known to us as Miyasan, pointed out to me that when I signed my CP, it looked very similar to nonna...woman. I incorporated to lines to make a CP and merged with the kanji. We both thought it was appropriate due to my gender. I also love Japanese...since Miyasan retired, I rarely get to use it...but hope to study it again, someday.

Ah hah! I knew it! *Laughs an evil laugh* Well, that explains a lot. The Japanese Kanji uses the same character for 'female' as the Chinese Hanzi. I was certain that this was something you'd purposefully devised and not some bizarre coincidence. Anyway, it's very nice, and has a bit more depth than just a mere signature (Personally, I think if you sign a work of art, then the signature becomes part of the work..... whether you want it too or not ;)).

Thanks for entertaining my question, and keep coming up with great work to sign! :)

I tried Corel X, and the reason I probably dislike it is that the interface is too different from Photoshop, to put it bluntly. Yeah I know, that's a stupid reason, but I prefer mastering one program instead of juggling two at the same time; There's so much to learn in Photoshop that it's mind-boggling, learning Painter at the same time would be too much for me at this point (have a very hefty schedule).

Having said that, what I do like is the fact that it emulates real media very well, like you stated. It also 'feels' a lot better and more real than Photoshop (hard to explain why, it just does).

Cris-Palomino

I can understand what you mean by difference in interfaces. Hopefully, someday you'll try it again. It definitely is a different way of working.

Ditto on the visit, Kim. It's always a wonderful feeling when someone not only visits your thread and looks, but takes the time to comment as well...I thank you for that.

Did a quick pencil study of Botticelli's Dante...looks so deceivingly simple...amazing how much Botticelli captured.

Thanks, Josh. And thanks for visiting my thread. If you see anything that looks out of whack...don't think you don't know enough to say something. As a lot of artists do, I can get tunnel vision when working, so it's nice to get other eyes on the work.

There is a Daily Sketch for a Modern Day Vampire (no timelimit). I saw some beautiful Japanese illustrations and after looking at them, I got this idea to do this piece called, "Just One Little Bite". In modern times, I see vampires who are careful to coexist...and some who may never kill, but just take the little they may need to minimize leaving too large a detectable footprint and, thus, possibly found.

The dark background is more what will be in the final, but put a lighter background just to show a little more of the sketch.

Hi...Cris..
Just dropped by to see your latest....have to say I LOVE the color combo in that last one.
BEAUTIFUL HARMONY...really great choise for that theme...or any theme for that matter.
Are you going for a very pale skin color, with a little reflected color from the background on it,
or will you be using a flat styleized approach in the Japanese manner...just curious, ..ether way would be great I think....I can almost see her as having a pearly white Giesha type of girl look. Can't remember what color there lip makeup was...maybe red..?
Anyway whatever you decide, will be great i'm sure...just want to tell you that your off to a great start with it...can't wait to see where you take it..:)

Hi Cris :)

Have to say Opps! :D scrolling down the WIPs of your modern vampire... the classical beauty of your geisha-like vampire... the almost innocent look (apart from that little tooth...) and then WHOAHHH! a poor cute little bunny!!! I laughed, it's great!! do feel sorry for bunny though... he seems to have a feeling that not all is as it should be... hmmm :D

Great work on the Caravaggio too  and interesting to hear Johan's comments from the documentary - things like that really do bring life to paintings :)

Lovely to pop back and see what you're up to... go easy on that bunny ;) and take care

Annette, fear not, the little rabbit is really in no danger...she takes the very little she needs so she can peacefully coexist and remain unnoticed.

hey Cris, some really cool work in here, i particularly like your small animal illustrations, they are awesome. your figure studies are great too.

i hope you can finish the vampire, it's looking great!

you seem to be really comfortable in Painter, which is something i am still trying to achieve. i know Painter has so much potential, but somehow i find myself reverting to Photoshop so often, because it has been my workhorse application for so long, and i really love it, i feel totally at home in that program. still, i haven't given up hope that one day i'll know exactly what is best done in the respective apps.

greetings!

Hey Cris,

in the first sketch the little bunny's (rabbit's?) lower lid was seemingly under pressure and being pushed up to the center of the eyeball a little bit which was wonderfully supporting the tight grip and indicated a good twist in the vampire's personality (outwardly etheral and feminine, but truly demonlike, that kind of stuff)

Now, the eyelid looks totally relaxed revealing all of the eyeball.

I liked the sketch version of that part better.

Otherwise, just keep going woman. We may not all be commenting, but we're eagerly watching...

Hey, Jan and Mu, thanks so much. Jan, Painter is, indeed, a program I love to work in. I use Photoshop as well. Due to my work, I need to be very well-versed in both, but I am very glad for that. Normally, I jump back and forth between the two programs, but lately, I've found myself staying in Painter because I've been developing a much more painterly feel (at least I hope that's the case) look to my work. There are so many aspects of Painter that many people do not try or know of because many come to Painter after cutting their digital teeth on Photoshop. It does require a slightly different approach, but the results are well worth it.

You should go to the Wiki and look up all the articles by John Derry (one of Painter's founders) as they will go a long way in helping you understand aspects of Painter.

Mu, I always toy with different things on layers and was a bit bothered by the eye as well...but for the starkness, I wanted it open, but have done a different version in this WIP.

Yep I did notice.
I like how your David looks even more sad than the original, Caravaggio being torn apart by guilt for what he has done in real life. The drama in the scene is also increased due to the head of Goliath facing the viewer more directly.

I do think David's crotch could be placed a bit more forward, which would cause the angle of the clothing to change, the latissimus dorsi too, and his right hand would have to be moved a tad more to our left. If he has his right foot on some object, he's leaning backward a bit. (sorry I didn't mention this earlier, I just noticed it. hope it didn't spoil anything)

I will be coming back to it as i'd like to finish it as a Master Works study.

I really hope you will :)

I got your e-mail, but noticing that you had included your "Ben study" here, I thought I would comment here. It looks like a pose from my deviantart gallery (which is cool). I like how you (left) the background blue, consistent with the original, and how the bench is missing giving a feeling (to me) of a more art-like figurative rendition. I always figure I cannot really be very objective with these, under the circumstances, but I like your study.

Cris-Palomino
10-30-2006, 07:35 AM
Hi, Glenn, Talaria, Ben. Thanks for the kind words. Talaria, a good way to learn what colors are used in skin is to find a photo with skin tones you like and eyedrop from it. If it's a jpg and you are using Photoshop, try using the 3x3 sample for the eyedropper. You'll begin to see there are quite a variety of colors in skin depending on the lighting and surroundings.

Ben, I'm glad you like the sketch. And, yes, this is from your Deviant Art collection. I loved this pose the first time I saw it.

I have been trying for a good pencil variant in Painter and finally found one using a chalk variant.

One small thing which will be helpful for other people trying your paper... I only got the paper to work after I renamed the file from Cris_papers (no extension!) to Cris_papers.pap

Heyas, Annette, Kim and Jho! Thanks for checking the thread.

If you haven't had a chance, check out the Daily Sketch Halloween threads (unless that's what you're referring to, of course ;)). There have been some great and some very funny entries in the last several weeks.

Thanks, Kim. Mike Mignolia, the creator of Hellboy, is an old, old friend, though I haven't seen him in many years. He was just a young kid when I first met him, but so freakin' talented. I love so many of the things he's done; I especially love his Hellboy.

Hi, Jho. My involvement with comics was lettering, coloring, production and editing. When I was at Disney, I got to work on and then the longest running title, Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. Much of my color work was printed by a company called GPS in Copenhagen for the European market; we did our own back here in the states. I also helped color some of the work in Le Garage Hermétique (The Airtight Garage) series for Moebius (Jean Giraud). Although I did corrections to some of the Disney characters (which were then implemented by the artists doing the stories), I didn't draw the comics. My actual drawing work was for products made through the Consumer Products division of Disney.

This was my entry for the Werewolf vs. Vampire Daily Sketch forum.

Awwww, Mu and Anand...you make me

I got the opportunity to recolor (it was my forté) some reprints of very classic strips including a beautiful version of Pinnochio. I even got nominated for my coloring at the San Diego Con's prestigious Will Eisner awards...first time ever for someone involved in children's comic books. That was a pretty darned proud moment, in particular because it included a limited series on story extensions of Beauty and the Beast which I helped design, develop and color. Walt Disney's Comics and Stories was a blast to work on and edit because we got to go through the archives and handpick stories to print. Man, those were fun days. Also, being able to work with fabulous duck artists like Don Rosa and William Van Horn was a hoot and we were able to meet the great Carl Barks. A while before I started at Disney, I had the honor to meet and get to know Clarence "Ducky" Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck...talk about a character!

Ok, I'll stop now cause it sounds like I'm bragging...but really, I hadn't thought about some of these things in a while and they remind me what a privilege it was to have been a part of all of that. Thanks for stirring the memories.

Glad you liked my Sunny Side Up, batte. I kinda like her, too.

In my opinion you should enlarge his pupils cause in the death we loose any muscolar control. Now he seems to be looking at something.

Violets of the dress against golden of hair; greens of blanket against reds of skin. Oh yes, you are a colors' master

Had a ton of stuff to do, including trying to get my email up and running.

Serena...thanks for the info...I kept looking at it going...dilated....not dilated...heh.

Glad you like it, Mark....yep, have read most of her books.

Thenks, Richa. I should have an update tonight...I'd like to finish over the weekend.

Oh, yes, Anand...so much to do to this.

Thanks, Brooke...I see you found zhuzhu's sketchbook, too....isn't his stuff amazing?

Thanks, Nathan...but I'm going to have to make some changes cause in this case the Lady looks like a Dude...heh.

They're having a sketching scavenger hunt in Daily Sketch. Don't know how much I'll be able to do...too busy to go out much, but do have some things in my home...started with:

Hi Cris! Nice sketches! Great progress on the vampire girl... Like her hair a lot! Finger nails look to me a bit too long for her age, though. Waiting to see the shadow layer on!:bounce:

Cris-Palomino
11-13-2006, 05:58 AM
Thank you, Gislaine and Anand. Actually, Anand, the nails are on purpose...Claudia is a vampire child. At one point, she gets so angered, she shears off all her curls and is dismayed when they immediately grow back just as lovely as before. So I felt her nails would be perfect as well. Also remember, she is a child only in body...which is what makes her such a horrific, mad creature.

Now I need to start working on building in the shadows and other details.

http://www.elektralusion.com/illo/ClaudiaColorWIP19.jpg

I'm open to suggestions, Anand, if you have any input. Any of you want to do a paintover, would be great.

Thanks,
Cris

Very nice improvement! She looks like a woman now! The neck is still a bit thick and the trapezius seems a bit prounounced too. Rather than making a drastic change to it, I think you could put some thick rounded neck wrinkles there, the skin would wrinkle a bit there. Some other nitpicking/crits are the top blood glob on the girl suggests that her fangs are piercing her lips (I think it should be thinner at the top). The way she is holding the teddybear is very awkard, I would think at least a few of her fingers would be gripped into a fist to hold the bear better. She also is too close in color to the victim. If she just drank a lot of blood wouldn't she have more of a reddish glow. Flushed cheeks I would think at least.

Cris-Palomino
11-13-2006, 06:13 AM
Yeah, I've been struggling with the hand. I had been toying (no pun) with moving the teddy around, or showing more of her thumb. Also looking at making her more flushed, but thinking of doing it with airbrush, so needed to paint what I was going to before I did that...same with the woman's neck.

Thanks for the observations....appreciate it, Nathan.

Hey Cris,

about the hand of the girl... I think it may be the back of the hand being a tad too stretched, compared to the length of the fingers. Also if it's holding the teddy, the hand could be a bit less lined up with the fingers (not sure if I'm telling this in an understandable way lol)

I agree with Womball about the blood on her lips, could be fixed I think by letting it drip out of the corner of her mouth.

I loooove the look of the sheet. How the ... did you do that? :scream:

Cris-Palomino
11-13-2006, 07:15 AM
Hi, Johan. The sheet was done by drawing a design in vector through Illustrator. I drew one half, then duped and joined the points. I filled areas with black so that I would have selectable areas of color: black and white.

http://www.elektralusion.com/illo/BedspreadDesign.jpg

I pulled the layer over to PS CS2 to create a smart object. This is one of the cool things in the Creative Suite. I could have made the pattern in Illustrator, but this one I felt would be probably just as easy in Photoshop.

After creating the pattern, I filled a large sheet and positioned it on the correct layer. Since there was no excessive displacement, I made a displacement grayscale and applied it through the displacement filter on the pattern. I then selected the black, filled it with a greeny gold; the white with a different greeny gold - each on their own layer. I applied a gold style to each layer that had a texture assigned to the texture channel in the bevel and emboss. I applied the displacement grayscale in multiply.

How many times do i have to tell you ...

Great work  Thanks for that tut. on how to get that pattern in there. seems like it would save a lot of time, have to give it a go. Thinking ahead and seeing as i'm working on wrinkles at the moment how might you also go about bending that pattern? (if you have time)Well I'll look into it, just wanting a point in the right direction. warp tool maybe?

Wow how many great updates since my last visit !

I really love your works on shape, composition and colors. Really. And I agree with your friend's suggestion : this kind of light works absolutely better.

I only see a difference of light between the blanket and the bodies description. I've desaturated your work to better show it :

http://aureamediocritas.com/images/itchings/4Cris0.jpg See how the blanket pops up if compared to bodies. It has got a strong directional light while bodies seem to have a quite diffused one (look at Claudia's arm). Of course, this is only my opinion!

Good work (^_^)/
Serena.

Hi, Mark, Glenn and Serena. Thank you for the kind and detailed comments.

Mark, for really displaced movement on the cloth, my friend, Robin has a great tutorial. I will find and post it here.

Serena, my sweet friend, you are absolutely correct and thanks for pointing it out. I should have remembered to do this on my own, but then that is why we come here. It is really great to have a group of friends who will take the time to critique with care and point out and push you. We end up with much stronger works because of it.

I thank you all, but at the moment, in particular, Serena.

Thanks,
Cris

Taking a bit of a break to step away and study my Claudia piece. After seeing such great palette pieces in a few threads lately, decided to try the palette knives out in Painter...they are really fun and gives me an appreciation of what I have seen achieved by artists like Mark Malone.
