Great news. The document doesn't mention that it will be time-limited, let's hope it's not.

Suh-weet mate! I have been wanting to try nuke for a while as I have heard nothing but good things about it. The wording of that release implies (to me) that it won't be time limited as it mentions several times about letting students get to grips with a high-end industry app and I doubt that could be done in 30 days.

Still, I guess will we know soon enough.

now that my 30 day eval is long since gone I am very pleased to hear this. Guess I am going to use my new PC for work after all !

Good to see that highend software like Nuke is following Sidefx Houdini footstep of releasing watermark learning version.
Now you can use
Wings for organic modeling
Houdini for general modeling, animation, lighting/shading and rendering
and Nuke to comp it .
No need to complain about software prices.:)

This is great news for those of us trying to convince employers to buy Nuke :)

Sweet. I was getting sick of having to go down to the computer labs every time I wanted to experiment with Nuke. This will definitely be a nice change.

Quoted from D2-sales...

here is pricing info :
Nuke is priced at $4995 for interactive and $745 for non-interactive
(render only) licenses. There is also an annual maintenance program
available for $999 and $149, respectively, that allows for email and
telephone support, as well as all product upgrades during the
maintenance period.

We also offer quarterly leases for $1995 and $195, GUI and render
respectively, and 75% of a leased license is applicable to a license
purchase, as long as purchase is made prior to the expiration of the
lease. Additionally, we have volume discounts starting at five
interactive or five non-interactive licenses.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions.

Best regards,

IMHO not that high of a pricetag if you consider the quality, support etc.

I love Nuke =)
Everyone, deep down.. does.

And D2 Nuke is quite nice, similar feel to Shake. The importing of actual meshes and cameras sounds quite useful. The watermark isn't bad at all, just random noise (which I thought was a filter in my node struture for at least 2 minutes :D )

$5000 sounds a bit on the high side, but AFX isn't broke for me, so I wont fix it.

Nice demo...saving - at least to a Nuke-"demo-format" - would have been nice though

You need to use a 'read' node. However, with the demo version that won't immediately work. You also need a plugin to handle your video format, which the demo version doesn't seem to include by default.
Not sure where you could find that... but since Nuke is compatible with OFX plugins, you might be able to find one for free somewhere out there.
