I'm puzzled...

I'm in the process of getting a new computer as things seem to be falling apart and dying on my current setup (Dell laptop). An annoying thing started happening with maya, though: it won't start anymore! As it starts up, it never gets past the loading screen, and I get an error saying "Fatal error. Attempting to save in C:\-------------.ma" And then it just hangs there. I have to open Windows Task Manager to close it.

I'm running the academic version, so I don't think Maya|Autodesk will give a rat's patootey to help me out...

I'm running version 7.0.1 (unlimited) on Win XP.

Any clues? Anybody ever have this? Know where I should look to try and resolve this??

i get the same problem , but mine only happens if leave Maya alone long eneough for my screensaver to pop up, but I have searched high and low for the answer, and it seems a few people fixed it by disabling triple buffering in your GFX card settings, someone else suggested to reinstall Maya buton the install screen choose repair, so i might try that now

Don't know what you mean by truple buffering

I uninstalled maya 3 times already - but I didn't try the "repair" thingy. I'll try that now...

Disable triplebuffering in the opengl settings. (in the video driver)
On ATI cards you find it under the compatibility tab on the opengl section.
Don't know about nvidia though.

the repair thing did not work - but the "triple buffering" fix did!!

Thanks so much guys!! This was driving me crazy! :)

Im glad to see that worked for you, unfortuantly, everything i have tried has failed, oh well, i just set my screensaver on around 90 min. so i shouldnt have the problem

The only thing I can think of for you is that the screensaver is using opengl and is somehow interfearing with maya.
Have you tested using a black screen instead. It's the best way for a CRT anyway.

I'm using windows blind, plus a Matrix screensaver, but I dont have CRT, I have 2 LCD Flat panels, but Ill try to get rid of that scrensaver and just use a windows oe and see if that works
