From the article:
Motion-Picture Windows: Soon on a Wall Near You?

"Windows that double as television screens, computer monitors or stereo systems are being unveiled today, on the first day of the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas, by Andersen Corp., the country's largest window manufacturer. "

"A low-voltage electric current runs through the window. When the current is on, the window is clear. But flip a switch to turn the current off and the glass goes opaque, allowing it to be used as a projection screen for watching television or DVDs."

You ask me, that's not an instant screen -- that's an instant window shade! :D

Still pretty neat, though.

hmmmm, thats wierd

so all it does is becomes opaque and allows you to project an image onto it??? couldnt you do the same with a wall and save some $$$$.......lol

an interesting thing i saw though was at the local mall....one of the clothing stores actually had these suspended panes of glass that had videos on them!........i walked to both sides......it isnt projected.........its actually one of those glass monitors......really wierd...you can see thru them and all they seem to be are thin panes of glass......but they are video monitors.

i was impressed :)

why is this new technology? this has been around for years.... it's just another variation of the standard LCD, just a different crystal.

i've seen several exhibitions use glass screens such as these.

is one company doing this stuff, then there are others, just do a google search, fo course exhibition designers soon saw the potential for this as a projection medium... i guess this is just recognition for the idea.

Next, imagine CG artists work being projected on the screens and digital art claiming some of the prominence it desearves over oil paintings. Ah, the future. It's a dream I have been having for eight years.

To the future!

This also sounds similar to a door that was used in a restaurant somewhere (sorry, not sure where) that leads to the bathrooms. The door was transparent, but when you locked the door, it turned opaque.
