Hope you kind people could give us some advice.

I’ve been working on a poster and was asked weather I could re-create, a 3d version of the poster i.e. animation, rather than just a still. I’m not 100% sure what process I should take. I will be filming in a few days time, and feel I need to take measurements and track certain elements.

What I would like to do is re-create the environment in 3d like I have in the poster, but to then transfer the characters to the 3d scene while keeping everything in perspective etc. I get the feeling I might need to rotoscope the characters, as I don't have access to green screen, even then how would I transfer that green screen footage, and create an accurate 3d environment.

Hope that makes sense, I've attached the poster for reference.

i saw your poster,
if you can access to greenScreen or blue your work is easy, if you can't, you may rotoscopy your Characters...so move your camera and every thing you want to do with it. for your live action, you must have target points and with Boujou (or Match Mover, or Pftrack) you can track your camera and export your camera to your 3D software and then animate your scene and then put them and your characters in final comp.
be sure your Aspect Ratio in all your softwares is unique, if they are not unique your final comp is wiggled.
sorry to my english.

yes, exactly,

there are many Camera Tracking software like:
1. Boujou ( 2d3)
2. Match Mover(Realviz)
3. Pftrack (Pixel Farm)
