Alright this is my situation. I've figured out what I want to do with my life ever since I found this site. I plan on going to college in fall of 2007 for modeling and animation. Now my trouble is I dont know a damn thing about what kind of workstation I need to buy. This is where you guys come in. My budget is $10,000. The only experience I have in any sort of cg is with photoshop and that just goes as far as whimmpy little sigs. Any way, I also dont know if I should buy a top class computer or a computer that isnt quite as good seeing how as 1. Im new to everything and 2. I dont go to school untill next year, which could mean by the time I do go to school, my top class computer will be out dated by then. Im lost and need help. so please.......... HELP!

well if you buy anything right now then yes it will be outdated one year from now. But then again you can use old computers still. for a nice end box I would say www.boxxtech.com (http://www.boxxtech.com). Talk to Ed. Remember when you get into it and you need more power for say rendering then you can add more boxen. Take control of five boxen rather then just use one.

You dont need absolute power when starting out in 3D. You can usually get by on what would be considered a budget gamer's rig. Anything more than that would be a waste until you can push the boundries like that.

Usually my recommendation to someone starting out would be to keep the machine simple, and low cost. If you find out you dont like it, you wont have wasted too much money. If you find you do like it, you will have (hopefully) saved up enough cash to be able to buy the dream machine when your skills have reached that point.
