Wow! Thanks Ivan.

This is great. I think most of the Lightwave stuff will transfer over to C4D, so this will be very helpful.

Hi Ivan,

Thank you very much for posting this (and your other tutorials too). I've just learned a great deal from your Camera Motion tutorial. Excellent explanation!

Ivan,

Great tutes. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts/workflow. Which of your tutes carries on from the LW-Vue_7_Sky.mov, showing how to setup LW to use the Vue generated sky?

best, Graham

PS Out of interest, why in the particle tute LW_Vue_9_Emitter vid didn't you just create your sphere objects and synch them directly with the imported data, rather than create lights, sync them and then parent the sphere to the lights? Maybe I misunderstood something here (not for the first time :))

IvanB

Thanks Graham,

(Its been a while since I've done this)

When the scene is exported, a uv map is created and projected onto the sphere, However when a sky is exported on its own, theres no uv..

When you export your scene (from Vue, You can export just the sky and uv'd dome, if you like), and load it into LW..In the texture editor for the atmosphere you'll see the sky image with the uv, you can replace that image with a newly created image, as mentioned in the "sky tute"

(You got me Graham, I just watched the video, and I did mention I would show you how to set it up in LW, But I never did...sorry http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon11.gif)

I'll have a play tomorrow and make a tute.http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hey G man,

Yes your right..
There is no need to setup lights in vue with the emiter..Place an object in the scene and sync IT to the light info from Lightwave...Much easier the trying to match the object with the position of the light..I'll redo that tute...

Thanks for pointing that out G.

I have never really had a use for this technique, its was just something I thought I could help with...My fault Sorry!..

There's no need to apologise Ivan, as there is always several ways to accomplish our required tasks in 3D apps. I use the light/object placement technique for adding individual plants/trees next to buildings in architectural visualisations. Due to the large number of polys in the scene, Vue degrades the display into representational cubes which make alignment difficult. Adding point lights in LW and then setting their pitch to 90 degrees before synching allows me to parent the plants to them OK in Vue. It took me a while to figure out this route.

How many days have I thought "Of course, you idiot Graham! Why didn't you think of that before?" (sigh). I've probably got a lot more to come too ... :)

Hey People,

I have made a couple more tutes.
1st, is to do with syncing the emitter with the objects, without using lights...Vue_LW_9.1.
2nd, is setting up the sky images in LW created from vue..Vue_LW_7.5.

Do me a favour, have a look at them and let me know if I have missed something.

Graham...Thats cool, I suppose you can use both ways depending on what your doing..Its good to have options...OOPS I removed Vue_LW_9...I'll put it back just incase.

Inlakechh...Sorry mate..Theres not much I can do...Hopefully I'll setup my own site one day, and will be good...The only thing I can think of, is that there is a download limit..Its a free site...I have the link posted in 4 forums and 2 other sites that I know of, so it must get used up...They are definatly there...

Great work Ivan. I was looking around for some tutes and yours are great. I just have a question on you render settings?

How do you manage to create a preview and have it look so good. Is there a default setting somewhere do you use the user section and define your own parameters?

Cheers

Hey,

Sorry I should of been more specific, what I meant was the quick render on the terrian tute. When I do a quick render using the final setting the landscaped doesn't look real. I even turn on the GI via the atmosphere editor and the resutling render looks somewhat fake. If you could point out some render specifics on how to acheive photo like pics that would be most helpful.

I work in the city on latrobe st and live close by but do animation / CG as a hobby, how about yourself?

Cheers

Hey Jim,

I'm sad to say there is nothing special about the image settings, as they are a "preview" render, or "final",

Its because the video is compressed and the images look soft, giving it a soft blurr kind of a look, that makes them look better than they are. There actually a quite crap, unfortunatly I have deleted them, otherwise I would have posted one for you to check out.

The only thing I can think of that would make textures look a lot more real, is to use real images to texture your objects, the other thing is to scale the vue textures. A bit of blurr can make things a bit better aswell, as the detail (or lack of) is hidden..

Sorry mate!

I'm out in the northern suburbs..way out. (Epping)..Gc is also just a hobby at this stage..I'm a digital camera tech.

IvanB, your tutorials opened new world for me. I am buying Vue right now, thanks to you. Can you just clarified something for me, please? This light baking, can this option be used like texture baking for using models from Vue in other 3d software? I hope you understand what I think (my Tarzan English...)
Also, best regards from Zagreb, Croatia.

IvanB

Hi Tom,

Hello to Zagreb (say hi to my aunties...LOL)

To be honest, im not too sure, BUT! when and if you export a scene from vue to say..Lightwave of 3D max, there is an option you can check "Include baked illumination if available" along with your textures etc, so I think it will transfer..I havnt tested it. i dont know how it would work if you were to just export a single object.

I hope that answers your question.

"I am buying Vue right now, thanks to you." I'm glad i could help, i think i should be on the e-on payroll..LOL!..

Thanks, Ivan, you are great guy.
I don't have luck vith texture baking - some models (parts of models) work, some not. I will figure this out. Anyway, I am amazed that texture baking of models in Vue for use in other software isn't covered at all. This is very useful technic for Machinima, for example. If you came across some solutions, please share.
(If you are not familiar with Machinima, here are my 3 short Machinima movies. Hope you will like it)

Hi All,

Your Welcome,

Sorry about the quality of the videos..Esnips has coverted them to flv from quicktime...So now there heaps bigger and crappier in quality...Hopefully have a different host very soon and some new vue6 tutes.

Tom..If i work something out, when I get a chance, i'll definatly let you know.
Had a quick look at the videos...very interesting!

these tuts are awsome... thanxs big guy... you probably already know this but instead of taking the tracking info from matchmover and importing it into vue and then adding your 3d object and having to chroma key it... i just go one step further and export the scene to lightwave and then render it... i know its really simple but i had an epiphany when i figured it out on the project i'm doing for school... thanxs again...

Hey Dan,

Your welcome,

Using the green screen/alpha is so far the only way to get shadows when using MM with vue6 ecosystem, I would use Vue xstream and Matchmover to get a huge ecosystem matched, (Camera info from MM..Trees and terrains from Vue and animated objects and rendering in LW)..If I was just using objects, I would bypass vue alltogether and do it all in LW..with the rzml to lws converters, this is done easy.

I'm glad you got it all worked out!..Spin the teachers out..lol.

Add another sale to the tally. I was considering Vue already but after seeing your tutorials I'm 100% sold and will be buying Vue soon.

I don't think most software companies realize the tremendous value of having tutorials like these available as sales tools. Someone fumbling around with a demo version will usually not have the time to see what the software can really do like they can watching someone experienced with the app really working with it.

After the sale the same tutorials add value to the product by making it easier to learn.

You should seriously offer these to e-on to host on their official website. I bet they would, and maybe they'll give you free stuff!

IvanB
12-19-2006, 10:25 AM
Thanks Anthony,

I'm glad they helped!...Not sure e-on would give me jack, I have sent a link to the cornucopia site, some time ago, as requested for the classroom, but nothing was ever done about it..oh well. These tutes were made for people like yourself, its an awsome program, and we should all know how to use a bit better.

It would be nice for them to know i'm unofficially on there sales team, LOL.http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon10.gif Then maybe they might give me an answer on when they will release vue6 xstream upgrade to vue6 infinite. I'm being cheakyhttp://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon11.gif...Do you know there is another site with better quality versions of the vid's.

Your welcome Polou,

griffdrc...Ok, go to realviz.com/Matchmover/Downloads/Patches&upgrades...Login (username_password) Patches-matchmover/4.0...Download.

If your using lightwave eg...grab the rzml exported file from MM, and drop it onto the rzml2lw6.exe and a LW scene and objects will be created in the same directory as the rzml file.

Merry Xmas and happy new year to all.

Ivan.
