February 4 for the MP 2600+ barton core.

February 7 for the XP 2500+, 2700+ and 3000+ barton core.

February is the month, it seems. Barton, Opteron, GeForceFX.

ATi seem to want to push the R350 for March too, which is interesting.

The Bartons are 333FSB right? Did I miss the launch of a 333 MP chipset?

Bartons are 512k l2, 333 FSB chips.

The next MP chip is the 2600+, which is supposed to be 333 FSB...which everyone finds really interesting considering there are no 333 FSB Dual athlon motherboards.

Disappointing, too... since a dual Athlon with a 512k cache and 333 MHz FSB would be a pretty kickass combination.

Still, in March we'll get a hint as to how the sequel will perform, so at least we haven't much longer to wait. :applause:

That *is* odd. I don't suppose the Barton's will be compatible on 266 boards now would it? If that's the case, then it looks like my ThunderK7 has reached the end of it's upgrade path with the 2400 ... :T

I don't know Ex-One. The whole thing is kinda of odd. I think everyone is just hoping a mystical magical new motherboard will suddenly appear, with 333 FSB, DC-DDR PC2700 DDR, AGP 8x, Onboard USB2.0/Firewire, and Serial ATA.

I guess one can alway hope. Too bad nvidia doesn't make a Dual Athlon board...though they do have a "Hammer" related chipset planned.

Vizion. Yes but that only supports a single Cpu. I'd love to have that board variant in a dual cpu system :).

i've heard some interesting rumours on AMD's next MP chipset. there seems to be nothing to back these up even as far as an inquirer link, which is odd.

would love to see a CPU with no chipset get released. oh wait... there's the 2800+! :p

If so then every other Dual Athlon board out there is history as well, not just your Thunder K7.

I suspect you'll see bios upgrades to support the new CPU's but at 266FSB.

Or more likely, you'll see Bartons at 266 and 333FSB like they do with the 2600's 2700's and 2800's.

I think the Barton (MP Version) will stay at 266... the XP versions will be 333.

I hope you're right, that would put my poor wallet at ease hehe

Greg, do you have a link to that upcoming nvidia chipset? I'd like to read up on that, or is it just a rumor at this point?

edit : just found a whole slew of links at the [H] forums, so I think I found what I needed to read up on :)

The nVidia "Hammer" boards have been shown at pretty much every major show for the last 8 months, and has been covered extensively on the various AMD forums. At least as extensively as NDA's allow for, which isn't much.

Go to Link (http://www.nvnews.com) and search for K8, Athlon64, Opteron

you'll find all that is currently public.
